Chapter 20

"Sasuke!"

Sasuke stops as his name is called. He turns towards the caller. It's sakura.

"What is it?" He asks, in his usual uninterested tone while continuing his steps. Sakura jogs towards him.

"Well... It has been too long since we had a proper conversation, isn't it?" She asks, while synchronising her steps with sasuke. He only smirks at her.

"What do you mean? I am in the room with you guys more frequent lately, didn't i? So what are you talking about? Not having a proper conversation?"

Sakura stutters for a while. Her gaze is fixed on the floor.

"That's... Not what i mean."

"Hmm?" Sasuke takes a peek of sakura's expression as he is confused by her words.

"Sasuke..." The pinkette puts her hand on sasuke's arm and stops him on his track. The confused sasuke doesn't give any respond and just stares at her quizzically.

"I am talking about us. The two of us. Not all of us. It has been a long time since we last talk with each other, right? And that was... Almost a month ago." She says, her voice slowly fades.

"What are you talking about? I'm busy lately, you know. With the math competition and stuffs. Also all the confessions. Homeworks. And not to mention the company's work. I hardly even sleep. Sakura, you should know more than anyone else why I'm working so hard."

"I... I know! I... Understand. I know that you are working so hard to get her back. But still... We used to have time for each other. You would listen to what i have to say. And i would listen to yours. And naruto too! We used to share so many things together..."

"Sakura. The last time we talked, was about her, right?"

Sakura is silenced when sasuke interjected.

"At that time, i was in a total mess after i lost her, didn't i? And i talked to you and naruto because you both are my childhood friends. After that, i found my resolution, thanks to you and that fool. So right now, I'm doing my best to achieve my goals. I'm sorry. I know you and naruto have a lot to share with me, but for now, i can't. I need to get my source of happiness back first. But i promise. Once i get her back, things will be like before. Our friendship will remain. Even now, it's not like I'm totally abandoning you guys, right? So don't worry. I am still your friend."

Sasuke finishes his sentences and continues walking, leaving sakura alone in the hallway. She clenches her fist. Tears are dwelling in her eyes.

"But friendship will never be enough for me, sasuke..." Sakura whispers, tears are falling on her cheeks.

"I want us to be more than that." She continues, choking on her own voice.

"Not to mention that you even have time to care for (name) despite being so busy. Just... Just what am i to you, sasuke?"

The tears keep falling, like a heavy rain on her face. The hallway is empty as the recess has ended a few moments ago, hence sakura is not worried of being seen.

However, little does she realize that there is a pair of ears has been listening to her conversation with sasuke for the whole time.

The owner of those ears, who knows exactly what's in her heart, sighs. He can only listen, but cannot do anything to help.

For all those times, even he, himself has a deep feeling towards the pinkette, but doesn't have the courage to confess. Plus, all this while, he knows that the girl has been in love with her childhood bestfriend and also the most famous boy in konoha high, so he has no chance of winning her heart at all.

That's what he thinks.

With a heavy breath, and a heavy heart, he takes a step away, leaving the poor girl crying alone.

In his heart, he can only whispers,
