Chapter Eight

After my classes, I allowed myself a few minutes of strolling the university's campus. Golden hour was in full body, as the majority of the students here at Trinity University were out sitting in the grass, on the picnic tables, or on the steps of the building, all doing homework, or talking. There were a group of 'jocks' playing football in the yard, they were shouting and laughing and even jumping on one another and I couldn't help but smile watching them.

This is the type of behavior I'm used to. Not the rich, I'm-better-than-you attitude.

Pulling the strap of my book-bag higher up on my shoulder, I dug my hands into my jean pockets, allowing the warm August air to whisk me away in a trip of serenity. For only a few moments, nothing mattered to me, not the fact that I'm the poorest student here, or that nobody bothered to even look at me, not even Ezra Scott what going to ruin this moment.

Ezra Scott may ruin everything else, but he will not damper my mood 24/7.

I noticed how the trees were turning different shades of yellow and orange and I couldn't help but admire how beautiful they were. In front of me there was a girl standing under one of the trees. She looked as if she was taking a picture of something, but I couldn't tell as her back was turned to me. Her head was shaved to the point where she would be bald if the small bits of stubble weren't showing on her scalp. She wasn't fat, but not necessarily skinny either. I wouldn't have noticed her weight at all if it weren't for the fact that all the girls here were stick-thin.

She looked almost as out of place here as I did.

Suddenly, a loud shout came from one of the boys who were throwing the football, and not seconds later, did the ball hit the girl under the tree, making her fall to the ground. I gasped, and rushed over to her before anyone else could, not that they would considering these people have no moral obligation to do anything that doesn't involve them.

"Oh my God, are you alright?" I asked the girl, as I reached my hand out to help her up.

To my surprise, she gladly took my hand, and I pulled her back onto her feet.

"Yeah." She said, rubbing the spot on her head where the ball made contact, "That's actually not the first time that's happened to me."

I held down a laugh, "We've only been here a little over a week."

"These boys have terrible aim."

Or a cruel ability of precise aim, I thought to myself. I didn't want to judge this girl, but she did look like a target to the students here. I felt bad for her.

"Oh no." The girl gasped, as she bent down and grabbed the camera from the grass. A piece had fallen off it, and I couldn't help but wince.

"That doesn't look good."

"The screen is cracked, and the top casing has fallen off."

I watched as she tried to put the piece back on, but it only fell off again. I could see the irritation in her eyes, but when she looked back up at me, it immediately vanished. She sighed, almost like she was trying to gather herself. I didn't blame her, I'd be pissed too. "My name is Vanessa, my family calls me Ness, though."

I gave her a sympathetic smile, "I'm Olivia, it's nice to meet someone actually willing to talk to me, instead of throwing petty glares and giving me the middle finger." I joked, my eyes glued to the ground.

"Yeah, I saw what you did in the cafeteria the other day. Everyone saw it."

Of course, she did. She probably hated me like every other student here. "It wasn't my smartest move." I admitted.
