RIANA GARCIA

A red piano. Drake's head resting on my neck. The soft moans that escaped my mouth. His hands on my waist. His beautiful emerald eyes.

The fireworks. Seconds before 2018. The tickles. The look on Theo's face when he gave me Grace. The kiss we shared. His confession.

"AAAGGHH!" I scream, waking myself up to the afternoon of January 1. I can't believe I've been pressuring my brain with memories of both Drake and Theo swiveling around.

Did those things really just happen in less than twenty four hours ago? And not to mention.. literally a year ago?

Mom suddenly storms in my room like something tremendous just happened. She scans the entire area and jerks her head at me. "I heard you scream," she murmurs with uncertainty.

I grin guiltily and nod at her. "That's because I did scream," I inform her with confidence, hoping she doesn't bombard me with questions. She's a busy mother, so I guess she won't have to interview me much longer.

"Why?" Mom asks me, an actual concerned expression showing on her face.

I blink in confusion. "What do you mean by 'why'?"

"Why did you scream?" She asks impatiently, like I should've figured it out the first time around.

Wait, does she actually care?

"Just a dream, don't worry," I assure her, "and also, why do you care?" I didn't mean to sound a little harsh, but I couldn't help it.

Mom doesn't say anything, and I wonder if what I said hurt her more than I thought it would. I'm not exactly saying that she's the worst mother in the history of mothers, I'm just saying that she hasn't really expressed that much concern for Marla and I ever since Jay died.

I don't even know what she's still doing here. "I thought you were leaving for Zarentil."

"I'm just concerned," Mom murmurs slowly. "And I'm leaving tomorrow. Your sister's at Jesse's again?"

"I think so." When I woke up, I didn't see Marla anywhere. She texted me and said she was with Jesse. Typical.

"I might meet up with Pauline in Verlan if ever I don't get to find your father." Her face changes a little at the mention of her friend's name.

"Uh yeah, thanks for the reminder." I yawn groggily, not really wanting to talk to her in a time like this.

"I'm also waiting to hear from my PI." Mom deadpans, giving me a warm smile before leaving the room.

PI?

I'm surprised @H_H_H hasn't posted yet. I thought the page would be flooding with more pictures from Heart's party. Huh. Weird.

Grace barks at me as soon as I get out of my room. Wagging her tail, she doesn't confront me, instead making her way downstairs. I follow her quietly, remembering the look on Theo's face when he gave me the puppy.

The puppy has always been meant for me.

Grace stops in front of the door that leads outside as if she wants to leave the house. I look through the window to check if it's snowing, and to my surprise, it isn't.

I honestly kind of miss the smell of rain.

I find myself squinting to see if I recognize the three moving blurred figures outside of the house.
