Sophia

Monday Morning.

"Did you see Lucas and Stacy arriving together?"

"Yeah, girl. They were holding hands!"

"I can't believe they hooked up."

"They're a weird combination, though."

Noon.

"Girls, it's confirmed!"

"What? No way!"

"It's true!"

"Stacy and Lucas are now a couple!"

"Dude, so much for your crush on her."

"Shut up."

Afternoon.

"Pay up, you morons!"

"Who bet on Stacy and Bryce?"

"Over here, man."

"Cash in, fools."

"I was so sure on Sophia and Lucas."

"They're just friends. Give me my fifty."

Now.

"Sop?" I felt someone pat my arm. "Sop!"

"Hmm?" My brown eyes flickered to Emily.

"Good Lord, you look miserable," she told me.

From across the blue square table, my guy friend Cole ate his mango yogurt.

"Is there something you're not telling us, Sop?" he asked me.

All at once, I felt all eyes on me. It was four in the afternoon and everyone decided to grab a snack in the university cafeteria. And by 'everyone' I mean: Liam, Matt, Cole, Emily, and Spencer.

The seating arrangement is like this:

Liam          Me           Emily

Matt         Cole        Spencer

"I've just been staying up late," I groggily said to everybody.

"Chatting with Nerissa Brighton?"asked Spencer, her dark eyes sparkling.

"Mostly," I answered, slumping the side of my head on the table.

Picking up his pencil from the table, Matt began poking my cheek. "You look like a zombie."

"I feel like a zombie." I gave a big yawn and blinked my brown eyes.

"Matt, quit poking her!" Emily chided.

"I'm checking something," said Matt, who kept poking the eraser on my cheek.

"What, exactly?" Cole pushed a spoonful of yogurt into his mouth.

"Her face has gone hollow." Matt put down his pencil and ate his cheese ice cream cone.

Spencer looked in my direction and frowned in concern. "The bum has a point, Sop."

"I'm fine," I fibbed, then I felt a male hand find mine under the square table.

Peering up at the blond with amber eyes, I smiled at him and mouthed 'Thanks, Liam.'

"At least we don't have to worry about finals anymore," stated Cole, his grin big.

"Yeah," Matt agreed with a lopsided smile. "But why do we still have to go to school?"

Spencer raised her right forefinger, a cue for a piece of news. "I heard from one of the deans that there's going to be an important event next week, so they're most likely preparing for that."
