Kara's P.O.V.
It's our little game. When Lena or I says "I love you," the other has to ask why. We'll answer the question and then it reverses to the other person. Our friends think it's adorable and also hilarious. And, I mean, it probably is. One time, we were at game night and Lena and I were both deliriously tired.
"I love you," Lena had said tiredly.
"Why?" I responded just as tiredly.
"Because you never burn my breakfast toast," Lena answered after thinking for a second.
"And I love you."
"Why?"
"Because you always make my coffee the way I like it."
All of our friends had burst out laughing and proceeded to tease us about it for the rest of the night.
Another time, we were celebrating my Earth birthday with all our friends. Lena, of course, has organized a fair amount of the party.
"I love you," I had told her gratefully. She raised an eyebrow at me and smiled.
"Why?"
"Because you're always so organized and responsible and I know I can always count on you."
"I love you, too."
"Why?"
"Because you're one of the most genuine people in the planet."
What followed was a very passionate kiss and James cheering while Winn and Maggie awwwed. Alex just covered her eyes in mock disgust but I could tell she was enjoying herself by the small smile on her face.
Tonight, it's just us two in my apartment and we getting ready for bed. We're both in the bathroom brushing our teeth when Lena turns to me happily.
"I love you," She says between mouthfuls of toothpaste.
"Why?" I reply automatically, not even stopping to think.
"Because you're the best wife I've ever had." Lena grins at me widely and I snort.
"I better be the only wife you've ever had! But I love you, too."
"Why?"
"Because you're the best wife I've ever had."
