A/N: weird alternate universe thingy I've come up with. Pip isn't part of the Resistance (at least I think he is in normal lore) and he's a fox that doesn't trust humans in this story.

I've always been told to be weary of humans by my mother and father.

Ever since the war broke out between the Magistrate and the Resistance, I've had to live in the shadows, and live on scraps thrown out by humans.

Us foxes have no idea what the humans are fighting for, so we just keep a low profile and keep to ourselves.

My parents....

I grit my teeth in anger, almost drawing blood in my mouth with my razor sharp fox teeth.

They were killed by humans.

That damn girl.....

I'm flooded with memories of what happened.

My parents and I were in our little cave when we heard humans.

My parents shoved me into the kitchen cabinet, and I listened, holding my breath.

It was a hunter.

The human crouched down to our cave, and stared at my parents.

"Ah! I've found a fox, dad, wait no, two of them to be exact!"

The girl had long red hair, and emerald green eyes.

She looked innocent enough, or - at least so I thought.

Another human stooped down to our cave, a male.

He looked old, and gruff.

"Nice work Cassie. Now all you gotta do is shoot 'em!"

Her smile slid off her face.

"W-What dad?"

"I said, now ya gotta shoot 'em! Straight between the eyes, they won't feel a thing!"

At this point, my parents were already starting to get agitated.

They bared their teeth at the girl, and her father got impatient.

"Cassie, c'mon. If you don't do this, then how will you ever be able to look after yourself? I won't always be here to hunt for you..."

By this point Cassie's sparkling green eyes started to shine with tears.

"I-I'm so sorry little critters-"

She pulled an arrow back.

Thunk.

My father fell over, eyes now pale and glassy.

H-He's dead!

I tried getting out of the cabinet, but my mother sent a warning glance over her shoulder.

"Stay."

She whispered, and looked at the hunters.

Cassie shot her.

No, NO!

I felt tears rush down my cheeks, and I opened my eyes.

"Are, are you alright?"

A tall, dark man is standing above of me. He has two guns in his hands, each with a blue crystal in them.

His eyes are soft, and kind.

He's a human.

I try backing away, only to back into the cold, hard stone of the alleyway.

"Shh, I'm not here to hurt you. You look like you're starving! Poor thing..."

He leans forward to pick me up.

I hesitate.

Can I trust him? Humans... they... killed my family...

I then look deep into his eyes and get this gut feeling.

He's a different human.

I let him pick me up, and he smiles gently.

"Good boy..."

I feel his rough hands pat my head, and I can't help but feel safe.

Maybe things will look better for me.

Maybe he'll turn my life back around.
