Human Name: Ignacio Yanga de la Cruz

Gender: Male

Age: 22 Years Old

Before Statehood: Prior to Spanish arrival, the region was inhabited by various indigenous groups, notably the Huastecs and the Totonacs who were both under the influence of the Aztec Empire. When Hernán Cortés and his expedition members arrived in the region, they founded Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz, the first Spanish town in present-day Mexico, on May 18, 1519. While the Totonacs willingly allied themselves with the Spanish to overthrow the Aztecs, the Huastecs sided with the Aztecs and fought against the Spanish. After the Fall of the Aztec Empire in 1821, the region was established as an important port, introducing Spanish immigrants, goods, as well as African slaves to New Spain. Years later in the 19th century, the region fought valiantly to drive away the last of Spanish forces, eventually becoming a Mexican state in 1824; in 1863, the state was officially named Veracruz-Llave.

Statehood: December 22, 1823 (7th)

Hair Color: Smoky Black

Eye Color: Fandango Purple

Notable Traits: Long, spiky afro. Dark skin. He wears a white gold cross pendant around his neck. He has a jarana jarocha (a type of guitar) strapped around his back. He smells like vanilla beans.

Favorite Foods/Drinks: Arroz a la Tumbada (seafood and rice dish), Chilpachole (seafood soup), Chiles Rellenos a la Veracruzana (crab-stuffed jalapeños), Torito (rum), Veracruz-Style Red Snapper

Favorites: Brujería (witchcraft), Carnival, Fandango (dance), Mexican Pink (aka Mexican Rose), Son Jarocho (music)

Personality: Brazen and Talkative. He's both a friend and a lover; a man surrounded by fun and laughter. He has a crude sense of humor that'll sometimes go too far, and he'll laugh without shame. Of course, there are times he isn't friendly, usually whenever he can't take negative criticism aimed toward him. As long as he's not in a bad mood, everyone is going to have a fun time hanging around him.
