Chapter 33 - Embarrassed

Rick Castle's POV

"Oh my god" Kate exclaimed and she ducked into my chest.

"What? Did they find us?" I asked, my writer's mind thinking about all the possibilities.

"No, there's kids out there! One of them was looking in!" Kate whispered hysterically.

"What?" I raised my voice in surprise.

That was something my writer mind did not see coming. Why would there be kids in our in our yard?

"Yes, they're right there. What if they saw us? They would never forget that, oh my god. Why didn't we go up to our bed?" Kate continued to panic and I shushed her with a quick kiss on her lips.

"Don't worry, they didn't see anything, they can't. The couch is in the way" I tried to reassure her.

Her face turned into one of hers 'seriously'-looks. I moved under her and we slipped down to the floor beside the sofa. I sat up and she had no other choice but follow me. I reached for her bra and gave it to her. The panic in her eyes started to disappear and she put on her bra. I couldn't help but touch her smooth skin. Without any reason I started imagining her pregnant. She would look as beautiful as she looked now even with a big belly. She shivered at my touch and I made small circles with my thumb at the side on her belly. She reached for her shirt and put it over her head. I kept my gaze on her now covered stomach and I could feel her questioning gaze upon me but I didn't totally notice since my mind was filled with images on her being pregnant and then having a baby in her arms. A baby with her hair and my eyes.

"What are you looking at?" Kate's voice dragged me back to life again and I looked up at her.

I felt my cheeks getting hot and I removed my hand from her hip, taking my shirt and putting it on before standing up.

"Maybe we should go see what those kids want" I said reaching out for her hand.

She looked at me with curious eyes but took my hand and we went to the backdoor. When we opened we saw the two kids playing around in the grass on our yard. I cleared my throat and two pair of widened eyes were set on me.

"Excuse me, but what are you doing here?" I asked in a kind voice.

The boy, who looked like being about 11 years old, was the one answering.

"I'm so sorry! We didn't know someone moved in here! We-we live in the house there" he said panicking and pointed towards the house next to ours.

"Please, please, please, please, please don't tell our parents!" the small girl begged going to her big brother taking his hand.

The little girl didn't seem to be much older than 5 and I admired how she seemed to know more than her age required. She sort of reminded me of how Alexis had been as a 5 year old. Always knowing things even I didn't know about.

"We promise we won't sweetie, just, tell me, why are you here?" Kate asked in a sweet motherly voice and I almost died on the spot.

She would definitely be a great mother one day. Why did I even think about this stuff?

"We use to go here because the grass here is always so tall and we love playing imagining we're in the forest hiding from dinosaurs" the boy explained and the panic was almost all gone.

I couldn't help but grin.

"You like dinosaurs?" I asked and the two kids nodded. "That's awesome! I do to, you know when I was in your ages I used to go out and imagine being among them too!" I exclaimed and their faces lit up.
