[seven months before the epilogue]

The first month of being a mother wasn't as easier as she was expecting to be because Jia was the worst during night time, she would wake up from hour to hour wanting something or nothing at all — and most of the times she would only stop crying if Kaycee was the one to be with her, no matter what Gabe tried to do to calm her down.

So it was very exhausting for her but she had to admit that even with Jia normally wanting her, Gabe was being really supportive by doing everything around the house so he could help her in some sort of way and it was starting to be really good having him around — he would bring her flowers and her favorite food just to spoil her, and it was nice to have someone taking care of her when she was constantly having to take care of another human being.

She hadn't had much time to think about Sean, she was too busy being tired and figuring out how to be a mother to care for the scars in her heart — so they never talked to each other again after the day she gave birth to her daughter.

He was living his life and she was living hers, and perhaps they were finally learning how to do that without each other.

LA, 2:16 am

Kaycee woke to the sound of some crying coming from the baby's monitor on her bedside table and it took her a while to realize what was really happening and who was crying — but soon she understood that it was her daughter, crying in the middle of the night once again.

"I'll go." Said Gabe, starting to move but she stopped him.

"No, you're gonna have to call me anyway." She said while sitting in bed, searching for her flip-flops.

"Call if you need anything." He said sleepily before she was gone.

With the monitor and her phone in her hands, she walked to her daughter's room, a path she had done so many times in the past month — taking a deep breath before walking inside.

"What's wrong, munchkin?" She asked as she placed the phone and the monitor over some random furniture, grabbing her daughter in her arms.

She checked the diaper and it was clean, then she sat in the armchair to feed Jia — so tired that she had to fight the urge to just fall asleep there.

Pequim, 5:16 pm

He had just finished his four pm class and he was gathering his things, getting ready to leave.

The past month was the easiest in terms of not thinking about her, she was busy leaving her life as a new mother and he was keeping himself busy by giving or taking as many classes as he could — and it worked because he really could count on his fingers how many times he caught himself craving for her.

However, there would be moments as such as looking to an empty studio that would trigger memories of her — if he closed his eyes he would be back in Los Angeles and she would walk through the doors laughing and already demanding where they were going to have dinner or she would be waiting for him to gather his things while still dancing around the studio or... the memories he had of her were endless.

He missed her, he missed her presence and how she would make simple things — as such as ending a class — into a memory he couldn't forget.

Sean sighed as he turned the lights off and closed the door, leaving the key to his room with the receptionist. In his car, he got his phone in hand and went to the clock so he could check the time zone —  was past two am in LA so he dismissed from his mind the idea of calling her.

LA, 3:57 am

Kaycee ended up falling asleep in the chair with Jia in her arms — she yawned and rubbed her eyes as she woke up a bit confused about where she was and what she was doing.

She burped her baby and in the process, she woke up again, so Kaycee kept walking from one side to the other or the room, bouncing her in her arms. And as if the little girl heard her prayers, soon she fell asleep in her mother's arms and Kaycee laid her down.

Relived, Kaycee headed downstairs to make herself some tea since she lost her sleep — and tea always made her feel cozy and sleepy.

As she waited for the water to heat up, she decided to do something she hasn't done in a while: stalk him, and she regretted it faster than she thought she would.

He had nothing on his Instagram but of course, she didn't stop there — she went to the photos he was tagged and the first one was from the girl he was seeing: Tate.

It was a picture of him cooking, he wasn't looking at the camera and he seemed to be in his element.

Kaycee sighed and made the conscious decision to click in the stories, comprehending that she would regret — he was cooking, there was music in the background and the girl was jumping and dancing around him, making him laugh.

She shut down the app and saved her phone in her pj's pocket as the kettle made a noise, pointing that the water was ready — she went back to her tea, feeling happy for him and sad for herself.

Pequim, 6:57 pm

Sean walked into his apartment, heading straight to the kitchen — leaving the groceries on the counter.

"Hi, babe." He jumped when he heard her voice.

"Uh, hi." He frowned as she gave him a peck. "What you're doing here?"

"I'm happy to see you too." She laughed, going into his bags to see what he got and he hated that. He always hated having people messing on his food, he had a system to do things in the kitchen — Kaycee would never do that... stop thinking about her, sean.

"I'm happy to see you too." He said while putting his grocery bags away from her — being discrete and it didn't seem as if she cared. "Just wasn't expecting."

"I was getting here to see you when Melvin was leaving, he let me in to wait for you." She said, walking to the living room to put on some music.

"Decided to surprise you." She said as she set her phone with the stereo to play her playlist.

"Oh, it was one." He said getting started on the dinner and putting some things away.

She started dancing around him, pocking his sides and making him laugh as he started to cook — she was a good person, she was pretty and she was fun to have around. And he wanted to love her, he really wanted but his heart couldn't quite get there.

He liked Tate and he cared for her dearly, and he wanted for his 'linking' to be enough for him to be entire with her but it wasn't, once he knew what 'love' felt like — he loved Kaycee and even with him trying not too, she was still taking too much space in his heart and mind.

He chuckled to himself because she was still as frustrating to him as she had always been, even with her being on the other side of the world — classic Kaycee, he thought to himself.

"What is funny?" Tate's voice brought him back to reality.

"Nothing." He said. "Just remembering this video I saw of a clumsy cat... how was your day?"

He sighed and then she was talking about her day as he made dinner for them — in his mind, more memories of Kaycee played nonstop as he tried his best not to miss her as much.
