A/N Whaaat!? (You've never played Tuber Simulator?) A self-inserting one-shot? Yes, you read that correctly; I'm not sure if you guys know how much I prefer writing in third person... But this was specially requested as first person, and written months ago (Edit: It's been almost two years now because of all the chaos that's been going on IRL, and since I've been struggling for the time to actually sit down and post updates I figured it'd be okay to go ahead and share this one even though I wanted to develop the ego stuff more first; but a little side-canon never hurt anyone!), though I'd like to think it turned out alright. 😅 So, without further ado... Enjoy this blurb that totally doesn't turn Dark into a dark chocolate marshmallow.

... Part 1 of it, at least.

Part 2 will be released soon: it's already written, fortunately. I hope you will enjoy this while I am still in self-proclaimed exile lol

What a misfortune this was. My best friend had somehow persuaded me to go out camping with a couple of their buddies, and yet for some reason I had been compelled to ogle a wandering deer. Following it, I had felt confident in my voyage, even as the sun bled into the land and the darkness had stained the sky like spilled ink. It wasn't until the elegant animal had escaped my sightseeing when I realized that I had no idea where I was. I had started wandering, hoping, wishing that I was going in the right direction, but my spirits dwindled hard and fast. I was shivering under my jacket, and my legs shook with exhaust. How big was this forest again? I could recall a big number, with three digits: something about "square miles"? That sounded big.

But my thoughtless thirst for adventure now led me here: I was hunched up at the base of one of the many looming trees, with its ancient bark digging into my back. The leaves above-head quivered in a humid gust of wind; I think I could smell rain on its way. The ground felt hard beneath my sore feet, and my seat was uncomfortable on the gnarly digits of the tree roots. I shivered and folded my arms tightly over my chest, tucking my knees as a cold wind whistled through the trunks. Branches creaked and swayed in a mocking dance, obeying the command of the assertive gale. It was too dark too see anything really. Even with the moonlight only partially covered by the sullen clouds, only the edges of shapes were defined in the soft white light.

I let out a nervous sniffle, packing my body even more tightly in a feeble effort to fend off the cold. I felt so cold. So small. So alone. Was there even anything else alive here? As I strained my ears to listen for someone, anyone, I were instead met with a sonorous howl. A chill crawled down my spine like a cluster of spiders: that was not a good sound to hear. Where did it come from? It sounded close by; and too close for comfort.

I quickly decided that staying put would not be a good idea. I got up and began walking, despite the complaints my feet made. Wolves were incredible animals, but I did not want to meet a hungry pack of them without anyone else around to save me. So, I walked on, but I didn't stop for a while. I couldn't. A weird feeling had started to embed itself in my nape, a sense of unease. Perhaps it was just the spooky atmosphere the forest had taken on, but I almost felt like I was being watched... What was it? Who was it? Was it behind me? Was it over there, behind that fallen tree? What did it look like? Was it the ghost of the forest like in those tall tales, perhaps? I couldn't be sure, but the edge certainly put a spring in my step as I hurried on to look for shelter.

As I was climbing over a large decaying log, I heard leaves suddenly rustle, and I immediately turned to look. I could have sworn I saw something move behind the bushes, through the shadows of the fog that had settled in. The alarm bells were going off in my head, and so I hurried up with the task of overcoming the log before striding at a slight run. There was definitely something following me. The ground pattered with footfalls, and leaves crunched as they were tapped by eager paws. I started running, my mind already racing at a dead sprint. Was it a monster? A werewolf? A blood-sucking man-eater that hunted people who got lost!?
