It was a clean but cold night, and we were in the barn at Mike's party. The amazing thing besides me being at a party was that it wasn't just the Losers, the party was pretty full.

Stanley had been by my side since we arrived, but as soon as he saw Mike, looked at me with a stern face, I sighed, and nodded, giving a slight smile from the corner of my mouth.

"Are you sure?" Stan said in my ear, which was hardly any good from the loud music that was playing. "I can ask Mike to come here." He continued.

I shook my head no. "I don't want to hold a candle."

He smiled, gave me a hug and went after his platonic passion.

I swallowed and took slight steps forward, dodging some of the young dancing, and others almost drunk. Until I bumped into Bev.

She gathered herself and looked in the direction she was pushed from, coming across me.

"Eddie!" She said hugging me tightly "Glad you came, have you been here a long time?"

"Sort of, I was sitting on the couch over there." I said, pointing to a couch where I now had two young people kissing. "Let me be clear that I was not part of that." I continued, referring to the young people.

She laughed, and put her hand on my shoulder. "Want company? I know you're not very partying."

"I don't want to disturb your fun." I said, grabbing a glass of drink and taking slight sips.

"Eddie, I'm your friend, helping a friend of mine at a party will never get in the way of my fun."

I blushed but still denied Beverly's company. "I'm fine, Bev, thanks."

"Are you sure?" She said putting her hands on my face like a worried mother (I'm kind of used to it.)

I waved and smiled.

"Fine then," she told me, seeming to look for something. "If you want to get away from the mess, there's outdoor space outside, and on the second floor, a balcony, there are fewer people in these places than here."

"Okay." I said, making my way to the balcony.

"Ah ... Eddie."

"Yes?" I said, turning around.

"Did you see Richie?"

"Not."

"Ok ..." She said, grabbing a glass of drink. "Go there, if anything happens, you can come here to talk to me."

I smiled and waved again, making my way back to the balcony.

After climbing the stairs and opening the doors to the balcony, I come across a boy, a little taller than me, wearing a jacket, jeans, and boots.

He turns around and looks at who had opened the doors. "Ah ... hi Eds."

It was Richie.

"Hi, Richie." I said, leaning against the fence.

It had been so long since Richie had called me Eds to annoy me, that I sort of got used to it and stopped caring. Looks like he noticed that too.

"Having fun down there?" He said, taking a slight drag on his cigarette.

"Not much."

I looked at Richie, who was smoking, and then took the cigarette from his hand and put it out.

"Hey!" He said. "Why did you do that?"

"That doesn't make you cool, Richie."

"Are you saying I'm not cool and not worth it?"

"Not you idiot, I mean this can fuck with your lungs."

"Okay, daddy ... I'm sorry." He said, rolling his eyes and sitting in a chair.

"Richie, listen ..." I said, sitting in another chair next to him. "You've been doing this since you were eleven, are you aware of the harm it can do? I mean it, Richie ... I care about you."

He blushed and interwined his fingers like a child listening to a scolding from his mother.

"Bev has been smoking since that age too and you don't scold her." He murmured.

"She quit smoking months later, Rich ..."

He gulped. "I'm sorry." he murmured again.

"It's ok Rich." I said, placing my hand on his. "I don't want to see my friend with lung cancer."

He smiled and chuckled.

I got up and went to the door.

"Eds?" He said.

"Yes?"

He got up, came to me, and came face to face with me, I frowned and before I could say anything, Richie gave me a simple peck.

"Do you mind staying?" He said, blushing hard and smiling.

"I ..." I said. "Okay..."

Minutes later, Bev opens the door.

"Hey Eddie I-"

Both of us look back and saw her, smirking.

"Forget it... I found him." She said, winking. "Have fun." She whispered.

"What was that?" Richie said, smiling.

"She was looking for you." I said. "And what was that?"

"What?" He said sarcastically.

"You know what I'm talking about?"

"Ooh... so uh... I mean... did you ever wonder why I tease you a lot?"

I looked at him and blushed, Richie was looking at the landscape, but I could feel his hand was reaching mine, slowly.

He grabbed my hand and squeezed it.

"I don't know if it's... wrong or... weird... but... I... I-I like you, Eddie. And yes, I care about you too..."

My body froze, and my mouth was opened.

"Yeah I... I love you." He stated, gulping. "I feel like you're the only person, among all of the Losers, that I can be... me. You know what I'm saying."

"Richie, I..."

"It's okay if you don't feel the same, I understand." He said, scratching his neck.

I slowly approached him and rested my head on his chin.

"I don't think it's wrong or weird..." I said. "It's just love."

He blushed and rested his chin on my head. "If it's wrong... can we be wrong together?"

I looked at him and blushed. "I don't know... can we be weird together?" I said, smirking.

He chuckled and nodded.

We slowly approached our faces and filled the gap with a deep and passionate kiss.

"Wow..." Richie mumbled, astonished.

"Was it good?"

"It was awesome, my prince, you taste like mint with a little addition of alcohol."

"And you taste like cigarettes."

He blushed and scratched his neck, ashamed.

I smiled and kissed him again.

"I forgot to say 'I love you too'..." I mumbled. "I love you too."

He smiled and we ended the party night looking at the night sky full of stars while everyone else were downstairs getting drunk and dancing.
