❏— Chapter One
˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳ Home

Soobin stared out the window, music playing in his ears. The dark sky appears to be reflecting his current mood.

He's certain that his parents were both very eager to get rid of him because they didn't even ask if he was okay with being sent away to live with his grandmother for the whole summer break --- they literally just gave him his ticket and told him to pack his things because he's leaving today.

They told him that they can't even look at other people in the eye because of the shame that he had brought to their family.

It's not his fault that they expected so much from him when he himself knows from the very start that he can never be like his older siblings.

He feels his phone vibrating, signaling that someone is calling him. He looked at his phone screen and saw the picture of his best friend smiling on the screen. Soobin immediately presses the 'accept call' button.

"Soobin-ah!" Beomgyu, his best friend shouted as he saw Soobin, "I already miss you, please come back already."

"Oh will you tone it down a little bit, Gyu, stop being dramatic. It hasn't even been a day since I left," Soobin rolled his eyes but he can't help but smile when he sees him pouting.

Beomgyu huffed, "I know that but you didn't even get to say goodbye to me."

"I'm sorry, Beomgyu... you know how my parents are right? They just can't wait to get rid of their youngest son."

"Hey don't say that, I'm sure that that's not the case. Look at the bright side, you might actually enjoy your stay there."

Typical Beomgyu.... always trying to assure him when both of them know the truth very well. Ever since they became friends in 1st grade, Beomgyu has always been there to witness how much of a 'disappointment' Soobin is to his parents ---- they never failed to tell him that.

Soobin is very thankful for having Beomgyu as his best friend as he really can't see himself surviving without him.

"What's enjoyable about a place that probably has no connection? How the hell am I gonna survive the whole summer there? I haven't even been there before," Soobin complained.

"Stop being dramatic, Soobin," Beomgyu chuckled, using Soobin's words against him, "You're gonna survive there don't worry and hey, you might even meet a new friend there but don't ever think about replacing me okay?"

Soobin clicked his tongue at how Beomgyu's words seemed so ridiculous, "Nope, never in a million years will I ever have a friend like you. I'm probably just gonna stay inside the whole summer to avoid the locals there because you know how I am with meeting new people right?"

"Well you have a point there but promise me that you will try to go outside and interact with the people there okay? Or else, I will personally go there and drag your ass out of your bedroom."

"Okay, I promise!" Soobin laughed at his friend who's pointing a finger at him.

Soobin frowned as Beomgyu's voice started to resemble a robot. Seems like he's already close to his destination as the train's starting to slow down and the reception is seriously not cooperating with him anymore.

He ended the call with Beomgyu after telling him that he will call him again later if he ever manages to get a good reception there.

The train came to a stop after a few more minutes.

Soobin looked outside and saw that it's much less crowded than when he first boarded the train earlier.

He picked up his things and made his way out of the train, careful not to bump with other passengers. He settled on a bench as he looked around for his grandmother who's supposed to pick him up but is still nowhere to be seen.

Just when he thought that his grandmother had forgotten about him, he heard a voice calling his name.

"Soobin!"

He instantly gets up from the bench to look for the person that the voice belongs to.

He sees his grandmother who he only sees once a year when she visits them in the city. Soobin didn't expect the hug that she greets him with but he hugs her back nonetheless.

"Oh how I missed you, dear. Look at how handsome you are and since when did you become so tall? It's only been 6 months since I last saw you and yet, you're already as tall as your father."

She pinched both of his cheeks as if he was still a little boy but he still tried to smile back at her. It hasn't been more than 5 minutes since he has seen her but she's already trying to take both of his cheeks away from all the pinching.

"I missed you too, grandma. I hope it's not a hassle picking me up," He said right after she's done with pinching his cheeks.

He can't help but smile as he looks at his grandmother, his father is seriously the male version of her. Every feature looks exactly the same, well maybe except for the bright smile that his grandmother has.

"Oh shush! You will never be a hassle to me dear."

She hugged him once again and he's relieved that he at least has his grandma to spend the whole summer with.

Soobin grabbed his things after his grandmother told him that they needed to take the ferry in order to get to the actual island.

-----

Soobin stared outside the car window, as he looked at the scenery outside. He would be lying if he said that he doesn't think that the island is not beautiful at all. The huge field of flowers that Soobin doesn't know the name of is enough to take someone's breath away.

He can see small shops perched along the way with people outside talking to each other. Everyone in town probably all knows each other since the town's population doesn't even exceed two hundred people.

There's also some children playing soccer and some who are probably the same age as him. He's not sure if he should be happy about that fact since he knows that he will probably not even talk to them.

"Soobin-ah, we're here already."

The hand on his shoulder interrupts him from his thoughts. He looked outside and saw his grandmother's house.

One thing's for sure, they own the largest house and the most land here and that doesn't really surprises him since their family's really well off but his grandmother still chose the quiet life she has here.

His grandmother thanked Mr. Lee who was the one who picked them up at the port earlier. Being his awkward self, Soobin just smiled at the man before opening the car door and making his way out.

Soobin walked through the metal gate with his grandmother beside him.

He can already see the beautiful garden, flowers are everywhere, all in their vibrant colors and in full bloom. There are two trees beside each other where a swing is hanging on it. He wonders if the swing can hold his weight, seeing how small it is. He guesses that he'll try and find out later.

"Come on, Soobin. Let's get your things inside, you can look around and explore the village later after you've settled in."

Soobin nodded even though he knows that it won't happen, he's really intent on staying inside the whole summer.

His grandmother showed him his room and Soobin actually can't stop smiling when he steps inside. It looks like his grandmother really prepared it just for him to make him feel more at home.

There's a king sized bed in the middle, a table under the large window and a bookshelf with a lot of books he can't wait to start reading.

"Did you like it dear? You have your own bathroom by the way."

"Grandma, it's perfect."

She smiled at him, relieved that he likes it, "Very well then. I'll leave you to sort your things out. I'll be in the garden if you need me okay?"

"Okay, grandma. Thank you so much," Soobin stared at her retreating back, immediately falling face first on the bed as soon as she closed the door.

No matter how much he loves the smell of his sheets or how he loves being with his grandma, it's not where he belongs.

I hate it here, I just want to go home...
