Twenty Four : Back to you.

•••

She placed her palms against the rocks that built her castle and looked down at the view. Small candle light was seen coming out from the small houses in her kingdom. She liked the view. No matter what time of the day or night it was, there'd always be a little light shining from one of the houses. Someone was always up, doing something, nothing, anything. With a sigh, she turned around and clutched the handle of her cloth bag to her side.

"I opened up the back exit..." Taehyung rushed to the princess, panting, looking like he had just ran around the world and back.

Jieun couldn't help but chuckle, but sadness was still visible in her glossy eyes. "Thank you, and I'm sorry..." She apologized out of guilt for leaving her one true friend behind. With another pout she looked down at her feet and walked towards her friend.

Taehyung smiled and put his long arms around her, comforting the girl with a simple touch as he let out a sigh.  "You don't owe me an apology."

"Taehyung.. I wanna go alone."

"Jieun, we already talked about this, it's past midnight and too unsafe for a princess."

"But no one will know it's me... and this might be my last day here... I wanna enjoy walking the streets alone, and saying goodbye to it with him..."

His eyebrows shot up with an annoyed and bothered expression. But then he shook his head and tried to conceal his smile. "The things I let you do..."

She clapped her hands and jumped with joy and success, put the cloak over her shoulders, and the hood over her head. Taking one last look around the castle, she walked down the empty hallways, til she reached downstairs and the gate that led to freedom.

Turning back around, the two friends silently exchanged a hug, a smile and separated from each other. The princess dragged her feet, as much as she wanted to leave, she also wanted to take Taehyung with her. But he'd never agree to that.

It was dark, the only lights available were the moon and brightly shining stars. But her figure still disappeared quickly and faded into that oblivion.

Taehyung watched from afar, his arms crossed and eyebrows crushed together from worry. Then he took a deep breath in an out, and walked behind her, ensuring her safety.

He loved her. In more ways than just one. He cared for her, cherished her. At some point to the extent to thinking about risking it all and being with her. Taehyung knew the princess felt the same way about him once upon a time. But he acted clueless, made himself think that their bond was only that of siblings. He knew it was a lie deep inside. And how much did he hate hiding it.

The secrets and feelings became unbearable at some point, his heart started getting heavy. So, the only solution he thought was actually a problem solver, was to keep his distance from her. Even if it hurt him, and hurt her.

It was difficult, knowing that she was alone and needing a friend in company, but he only wanted to protect her... from himself and his desires, and intentions.

Taehyung bit his bottom lip in doubt, wondering what he was doing, and letting her do. To protect her, he's letting her be with a man whom will be the death of her? The man who is the definition of evil and mean?

Quickly shaking his head, he discarded that thought. Although Jungkook did hurt her in some ways, he saw the worry, love and guilt in his eyes every time they'd be close to Jieun, or even speak of her.

Jungkook wasn't his friend. Heck, they barely made it out alive from that sword fight they had. But they shared one thing in common. An undying love for Jieun.

Love isn't wanting that person only for yourself. Love is caring enough for a person to let them be happy, even if it wasn't with you.

The misery and loneliness he'd see in the princess was... terrifying. The woman who had it all, had nothing at all in reality. That's what you don't see behind the scene. Behind the perfect family, the perfect smile, perfect girl, could be terrible pain. But nobody is brave enough to let you in on that.

Jieun smiled, she knew that Taehyung was behind her but she decided to not say anything, after all, she knew that he was only doing the right thing. So she let him think that he was sneaky enough.

She took a look around her kingdom. Everyone was asleep, in a land of dreams, and she felt less worried. Everyone has a dream or a fantasy that one day they'll reach. And now it was her turn, it was her time to reach that dream.

The place where she was destined to go to was becoming a closer and closer destination. As she got nearer, her heartbeat started picking up pace, beating faster than ever before. She started overthinking, the palms of her hands wet from sweat. Her stomach was filled with butterflies, or maybe like a weight and emptiness at the same time.

Soon, a tall figure was seen standing on the small hill, hands in pocket, looking over the town with his head held up high. The princess gulped as she got closer.

His back was facing her, but he knew she was there. It was just difficult to believe it, and difficult to look into her eyes after all that happened.

The both swallowed hard. Jieun started shaking a little, not knowing if it was because of him, or because of the cold.

"Jungkook..."

He sighed and turned around. Their eyes met for a second until he broke it and looked down at his feet.

"I- I know you hate me and I don't know why you still chose to come here even after all I've done but I wanted to-" He started explaining, saying words that she didn't comprehend.

She was too busy analyzing him. All his words faded away and she couldn't hear a thing. The princess knew, he was being sincere. No more lies. No more secrets. A smile couldn't help but sneak up on her lips, and her legs couldn't help but rush towards him, and her arms couldn't help but wrap themselves around his neck.

Jungkook was taken apart by the unexpected embrace, but didn't take him long to wrap his hands around her waist and pull her in closer. Not being able to control himself, a tear slowly dropped down his cheek.

Jieun noticed but didn't say a word, instead she started playing with his hair, trying to comfort him. And that's exactly what she did.

"No matter what you do to me, I'll keep coming back to you."
