Human trafficking has become prevalent in the world. The State of Michigan ranks #2 globally, which is disheartening to know people get sold daily. The authorities are working to capture human traffickers. They're trying to return people to their families. It's still a fight.
When I wrote this story, many ideas came to mind until I chose the subject of human trafficking. It's a topic that needs discussion and attention. While Lacey escaped the pitfalls of human trafficking, few people get that chance.
I released this story online in late February 2019. Within four months, the story reached 1 million reads. It astounded me that so many people loved the story and appreciated the awareness it brought.
I wanted to take this story further. After discussing an idea with my husband, I'll donate a percentage of the profits to a charity. One that fights human trafficking with every copy bought of The Businessman's Escort.
Women, men, teens, and children took and sold every day. Whether it's labor-related or sexual exploitation. Human trafficking ranks as high as drugs, and business increases daily. If you leave your home, please be vigilant of your surroundings. If you notice anything suspicious while out, return to the store you visited. If you are in a parking lot and feel someone following you, yell fire. Pay attention to your surroundings, and don't get distracted. Check the websites your children are visiting online. Whether it's the computer, cell phone, or tablet. Human traffickers watch activities to find the right time to lure their victims. Most come from high-profile work environments.
If we work together, we can end human trafficking and keep our loved ones safe.
