JAMES STORMED INTO REINA'S PRIVATE ROOM, DETERMINATION PLASTERED ONTO HIS FACE. HE WAS GOING TO TELL THE GIRL HE WAS ENAMOURED WITH, THAT he loved her.

When he entered, James was not surprised to see that the girl was sat at her piano, tracing over every note. Clutching the object that sat in his pocket, he stood there in utter silence, not wanting to disrupt Reina.

James had noticed that she had been so, so hesitant lately. It was almost as if she had completely shifted character. She would not set foot in the library, let alone even take a second glance at her favourite book, pride and prejudice.

And as he watched Reina trail her fingers along every key, James knew exactly what she was doing. She was pushing away everything she loved, he just didn't know why.

He waited for a couple of moments, seeing if she would play, but after waiting for a few minutes, he knew that she wouldn't. So clearing his throat, he pushed himself away from the door frame and walked over to her.

"Hey love." He tried so desperately to sound cool and collected, but his voice just came out in a slight stutter.

Snapping her head in his direction, Reina visibly relaxed when she saw that the intruder was James. Turning her attention back to midnight black piano, she sighed softly. "Hello James" she greeted back, fingers still tracing over the instrument. "What can I do for you?" She asked, her attention trained elsewhere

James closed his eyes and clutched the object tightly, muttering, "It's now or never," to himself. Fuck it.

"I um, have something for you" James pulled out a silver chain, a locket hanging off of it. The metal had been restored to its former glory and glinted in the hues of dusk.

Turning around, Reina looked at the object and almost passed out. Dangling from his hand, was her mother's necklace, all fixed.

"B-but how? I tried s-so hard to fix it and I just-" she stuttered out, hands clasped over her mouth as she observed the piece of jewellery in her palms. James smiled weakly and shrugged his shoulder as if it had been no big deal.

In fact, it was a big deal, for the both of them.

James had spent three long weeks trying to fix it, and only did he do it with the help of his cousin. Teddy became a spell creator when he left hogwarts, and to James's luck, specialised in mending charms.

He thought that if he would fix the thing that made Reina hate him in the first place, then maybe, just maybe, she would begin to love him back.

"Thank you so much!" she thanked him appreciatively. The way that she spoke and looked at him, with such admiration and love, he just couldn't stop himself. So as she fiddled with the necklace in her hand, he said what he came to say.

"I love you" he blurted out before he could stop himself. Reina almost dropped the necklace, and looked up at James wide-eyed.

"W-what?"

He repeated himself, this time with more confidence, "I love you Reina Carter, even though you probably hate me, I love you so much," he couldn't help but laugh halfway through. James knew that he should be serious, but he wasn't a serious person.

"I know it's ironic, I told you not to catch feelings, but now look at me, a fucking lovesick puppy"

Reina chuckled at him, but became serious quickly. This is what she was afraid of. He couldn't love her, nothing good would come from it.

"Oh James" When he heard her tone of voice, his face dropped immediately.

"You don't love me, do you?" The question was rhetorical, but how desperately did he want that answer. Reina dismissedly shook her head, she was lost for words.

"I do James, I really think I do, I just-, you wouldn't understand" He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs, what would he understand?

"Then explain Reina!" he pleaded. James was not going to let her slip through his fingers, not without a fight.

"You really wanna know?" She asked, almost amused. James nodded his head warily, scared of what she's going to say. "I'm dying James"

His jaw almost dropped to the floor. How could she say something like that so, happily? "What do you mean dying?"

"My bloods tainted, cursed to kill me! I don't want to break your heart!" Tears began to well up in both of the teen's eyes. Both lost for words.

Not knowing what to say, James pulled Reina into a tight hold, his hand wrapped around her waist. He could feel his shirt getting soaked in tears, but he didn't care. He only cared about her.

"I'm scared James, so scared" she admitted for the first time. Growing up, she had been taught that showing emotions was a sign of weakness. But right now, she just couldn't help but be weak.

"I know love, we'll work something out, I promise"

She knew that he was lying. Not intentionally, but did.

There was nothing that could save her.
