ROYAL BLOOD
— 16. Arthur
As she gave birth to Thomas, Nora had screamed so loudly she was sure everyone could hear her in the castle.Edward had sat at her bedside, refusing to leave her side as she gave birth to their third child. He hadn't been there when she gave birth to Lizbeth and Arthur and he refused to make that mistake again.
He needed to be there and there wasn't anything that was going to stop him from doing so.
"Push, Your Grace! Push!" The mid-wives insisted and Nora cried out in pain as she tightly clutched Edward's hand.
Edward winced, her grip so tight on his hand he felt as though she was going to break it.
His eyes were wide as he knelt by her side, practically stunned speechless by the sight that befell him. He had never been there for the birth of his child and he understood why most men refused to be there for the birth. However, he didn't intend to be one of those men, especially when it came to Nora. She needed him there with her and he intended to do just that.
"The child is coming! Push, push!" The midwives insisted and after a few more pushes, the child was finally born.
Edward immediately looked up, exchanging a look with Nora, who continued to cry as she recovered from the painful birth. She leaned her head on his shoulders, looking up at the midwife who held her child. "Give her to me," Nora pleaded, assuming the child would be a girl for some reason.
The midwife glanced between Edward and Nora, an uneasy look on her face.
"What?" Edward frowned, feeling concerned when he saw the look on the woman's face, "Is something wrong?"
There was a moment of hesitation, just before the midwife forced a smile on her face and handed Nora the child. "It's a boy," She informed Nora, who tensed up worriedly, "Not a girl. A healthy little boy."
Nora's smile faded, feeling uneasy when she noticed the way the midwives looked at her. She had given birth to another boy who was fathered by the king while Elizabeth, his queen, had only given him a daughter.
She turned to look at Edward, who unlike her, was unbothered by the uproar the birth of another boy would cause in England.
He was smiling widely, happy they had yet another healthy child.
"Let me see him," He insisted, a smile on his face, "I'd like to hold my son."
