Chapter 28 - Entering the Battlefield

Chapter 28

"A 'classmate of mine'? Who is it?" I raise an eyebrow at the doctor.

"Change topic! You'll be release after 2 days!" He laughs nervously.

"Oh, alright..." Why should that concern me? It should be best I shouldn't know who that person is... He might ask for his so-called "reward" if we cross path...

And I don't have much money!

These two days were just any normal patient day, the doctor coming in to check on my current health and such.

After two days, Dr. Jones came in and hand me a doctor's certification for my absence in school. Wearing a casual t-shirt and pants, Dr. Jones looked at me with worried eyes.

"Something the matter?" I said while he looked at me up and down.

"Are you sure you want to wear that?" He pointed at my clothes and rubs his chin.

"I didn't bring my other clothes, also, I have no choice," I shrugged at him and grabbed the plastic envelope from the table. I took a quick glance at Dr. Jones, and he still has that worried look.

"What's wrong?" I asked again.

"Do you know what date it is today?" He asked in a worried tone.

"November 20, 20XX," I raised my eyebrow in confusion, "Why'd you ask?"

"It's cold outside, you might get sick and... And you just got recovered!" He said in a panic state.

"I will repeat: I didn't bring any set of clothes with me, there's nothing I could do!" I said and cleared my throat, "Unless you could give me free clothes..."

"Wait here!" He said and rushed out of the room. He went back and gave me a large, black jacket.

"Thanks, I'll bring this back to you, don't worry," I said and wear the jacket the doctor gave me.

'It's very warm...' I thought as I look at the sleeves of the black jacket.

"I'll head out now, Dr. Jones," I said and he nodded.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mia, but please, eat properly and don't do that 'thing' again, alright?" He said in a worried tone.

Ever since the day I woke up from a coma, this doctor feeds me 5 times a day!

But after every meal, he always talked to me about his life as a kid. How he became a person that feeds his own selfish desires to a person who shares and understands people more.

Before I close the door, he stops me and said with a heart-warming smile, "One more thing: smile more, the more you look serious, the faster you grow old!"

I blinked at him a few times and nodded, giving him a forced smile. He jumped a little like he saw a ghost.

"Why did you jump?" I tilted my head in confusion.

"Y'know, we can work on your smile, it's too... Forced, " He scratched the back of his head and laughed a little.

"Alright? Goodbye then..." I closed the door and exhaled all the breath I held in.

I walked up to the elevator and waiting for it to arrive at my floor.

As the door opened, I stepped inside and push the "Ground floor" Elevator button. The door closed and starts going down.

It opened on the 2nd floor, a familiar jet black-haired boy, wearing a face mask, is standing right in front of the elevator and looking at his phone.

"Is this going u-" He looked up from his phone and stares at me.

"Um, it's going down..." I answered and he didn't respond, he just keeps staring at me.

"Are you going to enter? Or are you just going to stare at me?" I impatiently asked him. He lowered his head and didn't say anything.

'I'll take that as a 'no' then...' I thought and sighed, then remove my finger from the open button.

The guy looked up with wide, black shock eyes as the door close.

"Mia-!" The door cut off the guy's words and start banging at the elevator door.

What the hell? Do I know that guy?

The banging slowly grew quiet as I went down.

DING!

I have reached the ground floor. I exit the elevator and walk towards the exit.

I look up at the cloudy sky, and I could feel the cold breeze slapping my cheeks. I could even feel it crawling to my body.

I closed the zipper of the jacket the doctor gave me and took a step forward.

I am going back to my battlefield: Life.
