Looking Past

The moonlight shines in her eyes
As I gaze into her soul.

As the hills roll over I can see her
Beauty in the distance.

She gets closer and closer
As my heart beats faster and faster.

The shadows surround me making me invisible
But yet she still notices me in the cold windy emptiness.

For I was in denial and I thought she
Was looking right through me.

Now I know I was wrong to be overlooked
By everybody, everybody but one.

It took me until sunrise to figure out she was
Looking at me is a lost soul in his own mind.

It takes another to find your lost self and
Point him in the right direction.

So he can love instead of hate...
So he can care instead of his own indifference...

While he still neglects in the past just don't let it consume you.

For I know now that if you let it consume you it
Takes a lifetime to get out of it by yourself.

So don't deny others because they can help you more than you realize!

Inside the Mind: Okay so this poem was also written during my time in 8th grade. Not for any class but in my free time. At 14 is really when I started experimenting with my poetry. I always liked them but never really envisioned myself writing them. I wasn't in the best of mindset during this time for reasons I still don't understand really a decade later in my life. Either way I was a really sad boy during this time. It could have been the relationship I was in or just my mindset hating me seeing as that relationship didn't get sour until the summer going into Freshmen year. Either way this did start an early trend to something I still do today in my poems. In the end this one to me is a little cringy but I still enjoy it all the same. Maybe even if just for nostalgia.
