Lanling was bustling with cultivators of all types from all the places. Rogue cultivators, sect disciples, sect leaders all were present once again at the Carp Tower to attend the event organized by the youngest sect leader ever with the help of the other main sects.
Sect leader Jin was the youngest sect leader till now after his uncle, the sect leader of Jiangs and had ascended to the position after the mess created by his paternal uncle Jin Gaungyao. So far he had been receiving constant help from his uncle and even the Chief Cultivator himself helped him.
Jin Ling had attended the classes at Cloud Recesses, though he did receive extra lectures and guides before to run the sect and make it stand again after the huge disaster that had befallen on it. And he can say for sure that the torture of sitting through Hanguang-Jun's class almost every day along with Lan Qiren had been worth it because here as he was welcoming the sect leaders from different sects and disciples he could see in the eyes of every soldier present that they respected him (though whether the other sect leaders did for not was a question which remained unclear and if it was upto Jin Ling, he really didn't care at all.) He didn't say so but the look on his face surely did at least according to Lan Jingyi.
This year, many minor sects had arrived with their best disciples because of the competition and also for one more reason though he didn't quite understand but his uncle had taken one glance at the first two sects and barely managed to suppress rolling his eyes, so....it definitely wasn't a good reason.
The Jiang sect had brought ten disciples, out of which three were female cultivators. Jin Ling found that there had been a competion for the selection process, so the female cultivators were definitely good if they managed to pass his uncle's eye.
The Lan sect had also arrived with ten disciples consisting of five male and five female cultivators. He made a mental note to ask Jingyi about it later as to why it was so.
There was a female instructor too but she just took one look around, said something to Hanguang-Jun and left swiftly. The Nie sect had also brought ten disciples but they were not all senior disciples. He saw that six of them carried their own blades, while four of them looked junior disciples and had probably come to just watch and receive guidance from Hanguang-Jun, given the fact that their sect leader himself didn't practice blade for cultivation and was as always hiding behind his fan while observing the whole hall. No one could know what he was thinking and he knew to stay out of the man's way if he valued his dignity. If someone as shameless as Wei Wuxian was wary of this man then the person was truly dangerous.
He was busy in his thoughts when a guard disciple came," Sect Leader Jin, a rogue cultivator is asking for entry but not showing his face." Jin Ling startled and glared at the offending person who broke his thoughts. The said guard disciple cowered at his gaze and Jin Ling sighed," I am coming."
When he reached the entry gate he saw a cultivator dressed totally in black with a black cape and and a bamboo hat with veil covering his face. The veil and robes were also black, the fabric looking good but not suggesting anything about the person. He was carrying a brush and paper, in which some words were written. When Jin Ling reached and stood in front of the cultivator, the cultivator turned from the guard he was showing a seal and bowed to him, but did not say anything. Jin Ling waited for him to say something and maybe the other senses it so took the brush and wrote something on the paper and thrust the paper in his face. On the paper was written, " I cannot speak, have come from southern hills. The seal is for aid, infer— DO NOT SPEAK."
The last words clicked something in Jin Ling's mind and he quickly examined the seal and pushed it in the hands of the stranger. When he finally found his voice he asked," State your name and status? Then I shall grant you entry."
The stranger once again wrote something on the paper and put it right under his nose. " Little Master" Jin Ling found the name strange and thought it might be a title which the cultivator gave himself or common folk did and he gestured to the guards to allow the person in. " Guide him to the rooms of sect guests and give him a tour, he might need it to find his way around later without his voice. He is known." The guards nodded and hurried to guide the rogue cultivator to his destination, as the sect leader gave him a sect guest room then the Little Master was surely staying and that too with the sects so he was a respected person.
