"i missed you today,"
embry smiled as y/n wrapped her arms around his neck,
her feet dangling as she sat on the countertop.
"did you think about me the whole time?"
she teased.
"maybe."
"i bet your brothers had a great time listening to you think about me."
embry laughed and shrugged,
"who cares?"
she smiled and felt her lips line with his,
the space between their lips taunting poor embry.
"what, you're not gonna kiss me?"
"i could. but i like watching you get all worked up,"
she whispered,
her cool breath ghosting his lips.
"gross!"
the husky voice exclaimed,
making y/n flinch away from embry's lips.
the boy hung his head low and let out a deep chuckle that sounded rather angry.
"do you ever go away, quil?"
"i could. but where's the fun in that?"
the two boys took to dance around each other,
waiting on the other to pounce and begin their playful fight.
y/n shook her head with a smile and got to her feet,
trailing to the outside of the house.
she stood in the cool air of november and let the winds kiss her skin while she watched the sun sink to create a beautiful view of the sky.
"it's nice, isn't it?"
the voice murmured and wrapped his bulky hands around her waist to rest his head on her shoulder.
y/n nodded and kissed his cheek,
"very."
the pair stood in silence for another moment,
inhaling the crisp air of the world around them.
she turned herself around in his arms and held a hand to his face,
letting her thumb caress his cheek.
"what's wrong, love? you look worried."
"if i tell you, promise you won't freak?"
"i'll certainly try."
she let out a worried laugh.
embry began to explain the vampires that lurked the forests of forks,
detailing their thirst and maliciousness.
"and they're not with the cullens?"
"no..they're way more dangerous."
"why did you think i would freak?"
embry laid his forehead to y/n's,
"because i know you love walking into the forests. which is going to have to stop as long as you're a fragile little girl,"
he taunted with a grin before continuing,
"and...well, i'm going to have to fight with them eventually."
y/n felt her stomach tighten,
"no...no, embry you can't! if they're so evil, i don't want you in there fighting them!"
embry pecked her lips then forced her to meet his eyes that were orbed with the softness she couldn't help but melt at.
"i don't have a choice, y/n. you know that. and i won't let them fight without me."
y/n sighed and held embry close,
his breathing against her neck making the chills rise.
"i'll be safe, y/n. okay? relax. i'm built for this."
y/n giggled and kissed his temple,
"i know."

y/n stormed out of the house that was now spilling over with arguments from her parents.
"i can't take it anymore!"
she muttered to herself as she absentmindedly began making way to the forest she found peace within.
she cursed beneath her breath and ignored the trail in hopes of ridding the yells and cries of her mother that echoed in her head.
exhausted and worn out,
y/n collapsed on the tree trunk,
running a frustrated hand through her hair.
y/n wanted nothing more than to run away.
the girl began to imagine packing her and embry's bags and using the bit of her college money to buy them a plane ticket to anywhere but forks.
she humored herself at the thought of them trying to survive in a land anew.
a smile appeared against her lips as she thought about the sweet boy and her tangled in a bed of the apartment they owned somewhere in...
"arizona...hm, maybe somewhere cold."
she looked at the sky and realized the daylight was disappearing quicker than she had expected.
and as she got to her feet to leave,
she realized she was stuck.
all the trees around her looked exactly the same and she couldn't quite remember which way she had come from.
panic began to settle within her as she ran around the trees that hid her.
the girl felt her heart race quickly as she wandered aimlessly through the woods,
cursing herself for not becoming more familiar with them.
"no...no, no."
and she finally accepted she was lost in the woods,
remembering they were recently inhabited by thirsty vampires.

"where is she? have you seen her?"
embry asked with the hysteria rising in his voice.
"no, i haven't. have you called her house?"
quil asked rather nonchalantly.
"yeah, no one picked up."
"dude, chill. she's probably asleep or like..in the shower."
"no, no. y/n would've called by now. she always does."
"maybe she forgot."
embry groaned and got to his feet in anger,
shaking his head in denial.
"no, you're not listening! something is wrong!"
he sought after sam,
soon finding him near the water.
"sam! sam! you have to let me in the woods now!"
"embry...it's not safe, at least not right now. we can't afford to scare them off when we're so-"
"i know y/n is in there! i've got to find her before they do, sam, please!"
embry's voice had a quiet crack to it as he imagined y/n sitting there alone,
facing the impending doom.
sam pressed his lips together and nodded,
"find her. and then get out as quickly as you can."
without any hesitation,
embry phased and took off into the woods.

y/n moaned in pain and held her ankle that was recently twisted,
feeling her head spin in fear.
the rustling near her made her freeze.
oh my god.
this is it.
she thought morbidly.
and though her life was drawing to an end,
she couldn't help but think of embry.
how much she loved him;
how much she'd miss him;
and how she hoped he'd be able to move on.
she peeled her eyes open as the breathing above her fanned her cheeks,
coming face to face with embry.
she gasped and wrapped her arms around his neck,
burying her face in his fur.
"oh my god, i'm so happy to see you. embry, i'm so sorry."
she stroked his black-white snout in gratuity.
he pointed his head back and signaled y/n to climb on.
she wrapped her arms around his neck tightly and listened to the wind whistle in her ears as they drew closer to the end of the woods.
as soon as they were back to safety,
y/n climbed down carefully and sat on the doorstep of embry's house to watch him phase back.
"god you're so incredibly stubborn, y/n,"
he breathed out and wrapped her in his arms,
relishing in the way her heart beat against him and the way her hard breathing brushed against his skin.
"i'm sorry. i'm so sorry, i forgot."
embry ran a hand down her hair and stopped at the nape of her neck,
holding her as close as humanly possible.
"embry, i'm sorry."
"you're alive and that's all that matters to me."
she pulled back with all her might and placed her forehead to his.
"sam must be pretty upset, huh? running in there after your stupid girlfriend and scaring off the vampires."
embry chuckled and kissed the tip of her nose,
"well you got one thing right, you are pretty stupid."
the two of them erupted into laughs but never moved an inch away from each other.
"thank you for saving me."
"i'd do it again...for you."
she let out a gentle sigh then closed the space between them,
their lips finally coming together as one.
embry was always soft and careful when it came to y/n,
but tonight was different.
this kiss was fueled by angst and longing,
leaving y/n's body to fill with butterflies at his sudden wave of aggression.
but she loved it and continued with the same amount of passion,
sinking her teeth into his bottom lip carefully.
the low growl built in the base of his throat as they stood connected,
their body's hot with verve.
once they finally pulled back,
they were left gasping for air with bright smiles.
"maybe i should walk in the woods more if you'll kiss me like that,"
y/n joked as she ran her fingers through his hair.
"oh,god. promise me you'll never walk out there alone again."
y/n's fingers found their way to embry's as they trailed back into the house together.
she laid in his bed that night,
their bodies so close their breathing was nearly in sync,
and embry felt the world around him slow.
he was willing to go through whatever if it meant y/n was safe.
she was worth it,
he realized.
this was the girl he was put on this earth for.
