y/n rested her head on the couch that was beginning to pull her deep into her subconscious until the doorbell echoed throughout her empty house.
pulling her eyes open,
she groaned loudly and trudged to the front door.
"hey,"
the boy smiled shyly on the other side.
"what are you doing here?"
she asked her now ex-boyfriend embry call.
"you left your shirt at my house. thought it'd be proper to come and...return it."
y/n eyed the overly large shirt in his hand,
prompting her to cross her arms across her chest.
"embry, you know that's yours."
"well...yeah, but i gave it to you. so i'm returning it."
she rolled her eyes,
"why did you really come?"
embry took a hesitant step forward and forced her eyes to lock with his own.
her stomach tightened at the sight of those precious eyes of his.
"i miss you, y/n."
she could feel her defenses crumbling down quickly,
but she fought against it with everything left in her.
"no...no, embry. don't-"
"please, y/n..you don't understand."
"i don't see how i could have possible misinterpreted that, embry."
the boy sighed heavily and shook his head,
"y/n, i would never cheat on you. you have to believe me and-and understand what happened."
she scoffed and crossed her arms,
"what's there to understand? you don't love me anymore, so you cheated!"
embry flinched at the words,
feeling his body began to tremor.
he then took in deep breath and regained himself,
forcing himself to continue.
"she lied. that's it! be honest with yourself, y/n. does it sound like me to cheat on you? when i'm so in love with you?!"
she stood still and quiet at the words,
letting the nervous habit of playing with the ends of her shirt take over.
"she told you that to break us up."
"how do i know you're not lying to me, embry?"
"because you trust me. you know, deep down, that i would never cheat on you. but if that's not enough, you can ask any of my brothers. and you know as well as i do, they're no liars. and neither am i."
she continued to stand still and felt the knot in her throat began to form.
it was true,
she realized.
embry was nothing short of loyal and loving.
all their years together and he had never failed to show her just how important she was.
he stepped close enough to y/n that she could feel the heat radiating off his body.
"listen, y/n, as long as my heart beats, it beats for you. i'll never stop loving you,"
he reminded and placed the palm of her hand against his bare chest,
where she could feel the quick beating of his heart.
her defenses came crumbling down as she allowed herself to feel the guilt.
after all this time,
she let a simple rumor almost destroy them.
almost end their loving relationship.
and that's if he'll forgive you, idiot.
she thought harshly.
the tears overflowed and began to stream down her cheeks rapidly,
making embry's face pull over with the same sadness.
"don't cry...please don't cry..."
"i'm sorry. i'm sorry, embry. i don't know why-"
"hey. cut it out,"
he advised as he wrapped his arms around her,
pulling her to his chest.
she rested a wet cheek against his sweltering body and listened to him as he sternly guided her to breathe.
his hands caressed up and down her back and soon the guilt ebbed away.
"i'm sorry for letting her get into my head like that."
she repeated,
placing a quick kiss against his collarbone.
"i'm sorry, too. i should've never made you feel uncertain about your place in my life,"
he spoke against the top of her head then left a kiss there.
he pulled her back by her shoulders and let their eyes lock,
letting embry explore the depths of her y/c eyes.
the sight nearly knocked the breath out of him.
the way her eyes told every secret;
every emotion;
and guided their way to her soul.
her beautiful, beautiful soul.
embry knew he would never feel for another girl like he did for y/n.
he was locked in.
their souls were now one.
she reached a hand up to his hair and ruffled it wildly,
breaking the silence with their laughter.
"i'm sorry, truly,"
she whispered again.
"stop. we're young. we're still...trying to figure things out, right? but no matter what, i'm not leaving your side."
she nodded and let her hands cup the nape of his neck,
her fingers caressing his skin slowly.
"i love you, embry."
"i love you all the more."
she pulled him down by his neck and felt the sparks numb her body once their lips became one.
lust,
love,
desire,
and yearning deepened their kiss.
his fingers braided themselves in her hair and pulled her closer.
and closer.
until they were forced to pull back for breath.
y/n let the cold air around them fill her lungs again,
leaving them panting with big grins.
embry's thumb caressed her now swollen bottom lip,
"see, aren't you glad i brought back your shirt?"
embry laughed and tossed her the significantly larger shirt.
"it's kind of funny now, no? thinking you were a cheater. you're a dog! mans best friend, the most loyal pet! all that good stuff."
y/n giggled as he chuckled and draped an arm around her shoulder.
she pulled him inside her house and closed the door behind them,
drowning the world out as they laid together as one.
