Lily's inquisition had left Valentine on edge all week. While James hadn't dropped any hints that he'd felt anything more than friendship with her, Valentine paid extra attention to him and his actions. Wether he liked her or not, their relationship was strained due to the awkwardness Valentine felt subdued in whenever engaging in a conversation with the boy, hence her reason behind avoiding him.

Valentine had decided to blame Lily for her suspicious behavior, beyond displeased with the redhead for putting such a wrong idea in her head. Not that there was nothing wrong with James at all. He was kind (when he felt like it), ridiculously funny, a considerate and deathly loyal friend, and although Valentine would never openly admit it, she found James attractive.

Thank Merlin for that Quidditch physique.

And if Valentine had felt any emotions near James before, they were twice as great now, odd feelings bubbling to the surface whenever he just said her name. And she couldn't even pin point why. It was crazy how one accusation from Lily could change Valentine's whole outlook on James and her's relationship.

It was like trying a new food for the first time. The thought of eating it is positively disgusting, seeing it has no appeal, until you finally try it and realize it wasn't nearly bad.

Until you realize, perhaps, you even liked it.

James isn't a slice of bloody bread, she reminded herself sternly.

Does Valentine like it? She didn't know. The thought of her being with someone who cared about her as much as she did him sounded great. Having someone to hold hands with and hold, to share shy kisses before the fireplace.

But it just didn't seem that she could think of James as that person.

I'm acting like this is a marriage proposal. I don't even have proof he likes me, I'm overthinking, Valentine scolded herself, glad no one could hear her thoughts or they'd be so very embarrassing.

And this was stupid because Valentine never would've even come to the conclusion she might maybe possibly even like James if not for Lily.

Blast her.

This is ridiculous, anyways. Valentine couldn't just suddenly develop a crush at the expense of Lily proposing the idea that someone liked her. It was absurd.

This was like a game. Does Valentine move forward one space or back three?

"Yoo-hoo," Macey voiced, waving her hand in front of Valentine's face to wake her from the daze she'd entered. Blinking, the blonde sat up straighter, focusing on her friend besides her.
