The short weeks between Halloween and November seem to fly by at an unbearably fast rate, the trees bleeding into deep oranges and blush reds. The temperature only dropped more with each passing day, winds whipping past to the point that all Valentine could see outside was her hair blowing in her face.

Classes had just let out for the remaining weekend, giving the Hogwarts students long days to venture the grounds and spend time with their friends.

Valentine had just left the Room of Requirements where the Marauders were lounging around and dueling, being she had to use the restroom.

She was humming to herself as she skipped down the hallway, her shoes scuffing against the floors when she finally pushed open the door to the girls lavatory.

Valentine's humming came to an end when she heard a soft crying sound coming from the stall to her left. At first she'd thought the sobs had come from Moaning Myrtle, but then she'd remembered that Myrtle inhabited a different bathroom.

Valentine softly approached the bathroom stall, raising her fist to knock on the surface gently. Almost instantly the cries quieted, although Valentine could still hear heavy intakes of air as an act to hide the sobs with deep breaths.

"Are you okay in there?" Valentine whispered, and when there was no reply, the blonde frowned, fiddling her fingers and she rocked back and forth on her feet.

"Look, just give some sign of life, okay? I can't leave you crying like this, and I will alohomora the door," Valentine added, and there was shuffling on the other side.

There was a clicking sound, the bathroom lock clanked, and then slowly the stall door opened up.

"Oh," Valentine lamely commented. "Lily."

Lily Evans was slouched on the dirty tiles, her back rested against the stall door. Her hair was bright and disheveled, face splotchy and red, cheeks stained with glass-like tears. Her lips quivered, and she hugged herself tighter.

Valentine tried to keep a neutral face plastered on. "What happened? Did you ditch Marlene for some preposterous reason and now you have no friends?"

Valentine hadn't intended to be so rude, but she couldn't help it.

"You ditched me," Lily muttered. "Not the other way around."

Valentine's face screwed up. "Were you present during your temper tantrum? Because that was all you."

Lily's lips puckered and she looked down. "I didn't mean it, you know."

"Which part?" Valentine inquired.

"About him being a monster. About you picking him over me. You were right," Lily's voice cracked and she started to break down. Fresh tears began to fall and her breathing was erratic.
