You followed Winry as the pair of you entered the hospital in Central. Edward had busted up his automail once again, but this time Winry was freaking out about it. She had accidentally left a screw out of the repair, and was now worried sick.

"I'm sure they're fine, Winry. Edward said they were both okay, so he won't be mad at you," you attempted to calm her nerves as you were led to the room they were in by Alex Louis Armstrong. He had been the one sent to pick you up from the train station.

"But what if he holds a grudge!?" She questioned.

"Edward isn't like that, he'll be fine. The thing I'm more worried about is if Al is okay. They couldn't come back to Risembool. I wonder how damaged they both are," You said to yourself worriedly.

Winry gave you a smug look and cooed, "Sure that's the only reason you want to see Alphonse?"

You blushed, stuttering, "S-shut up."

The Strong-Arm Alchemist led you to a door, then turned to the two of you. "Here's their room."

Winry immediately pushed the door opened and walked in. You, however, turned toward the man first and said, "Thank you."

"You're very welcome," he replied.

You entered the room to hear Winry hastily apologizing about the automail breaking, followed by Edward trying to convince her it was his own fault it was broken.

'Business as usual,' you thought.

You looked around the room. When your eyes landed on Al, you gasped.

Alphonse was in the corner on the floor, arms and legs completely missing. His face was downcast, seeming to not have either noticed, or cared, that Winry and you were there.

'What have they been up to now?'

Something seemed wrong. Al's usual happy personality that would kindly greet an old friend was not making an appearance.

"Alphonse?" You quietly asked.

His head slowly lifted, looked at you, then stared back towards the floor.

"You were doing something dangerous again weren't you! Right Alphonse!?" Winry had gone from her apologetic tone to one of scolding. She turned towards Al and gave him a scolding look.

Al looked up again, this time at Winry, and gave a disgruntled, "Yeah."

Now you were certain something was wrong. There was a clear tone of unrest, and it was new for you to hear him like that.

Winry noticed this too. "Edward, did you and Al have a fight?"

Edward looked down at the hospital bed with guilt.

This made Winry suddenly grow upset.

"I've known you guys our entire lives, and you still don't tell me anything! Not how you got like this , or why you're fighting, and I'm sick of it! I don't even care anymore!" She ran out the door.

"W-Winry!" You ran after her. The brothers didn't move at all. They knew she was upset, and that she probably just needed time to cool down.

As you ran into the hall, you saw that Winry had bumped into a man with black hair and glasses. He appeared to have only just started talking to her.

"Oh, you must be Winry," he took notice of you then."And you must be (Y/n). I'm Colonel Maes Hughes. I'm a friend of the Elric brothers. It's a pleasure to finally meet you both."

You were both surprised. After whatever had just taken place in the hospital room, you supposed it was nice to meet a friend of the brothers.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you too," Winry replied, clearly a bit confused.
