I know this still isn't an actual update but my first deadline for applying to art colleges is December 1st and I feel slightly less panicked about everything at the moment and I wanted to tell you all why.
So National Portfolio Day was yesterday at Maryland Institute College of Art, at which you can get portfolio reviews from a bunch of different art schools. The first school I went to was School of Visual Arts (where Rebecca Sugar, creator of Steven Universe, went), and I had a bit of a panic attack waiting in line, but they gave me a really positive portfolio review. Then I went to the MICA and SAIC lines and they gave me some positive feedback, but not as good as the first school. Then we went over to a different building to get a review from University of the Arts. While waiting in line, I was overhearing one portfolio review that had a lot of positive feedback but with constructive criticism, and I was really hoping to get that reviewer. She ended up approving that person's portfolio, and I ended up getting her. Whilst talking, she seemed really excited about all my work, especially concerning my own characters and imaginative work, and said my work was really witty and expressed my personality (so I was very happy). She ended up approving my portfolio so that when I apply to the school I don't have to resubmit my portfolio online, and this was one of my top choices and I felt really nervous about submitting my portfolio to that college, so it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders concerning all the art school stuff.
And that school has a Film and animation major instead of just animation alone, so it includes stuff like script writing and story development instead of just the animation aspect. This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm hoping to go into as a career, and the enthusiasm that the reviewer expressed about my ideas just made me feel really appreciated. Like complimenting my story lines and characters is the best way to get to my heart. And the School of Visual Arts had that vibe for me more than the other two schools I got portfolio reviews from.
There's also a bit of a feeling that I might not get into MICA anyways, since the reviewer for that school said that I should try to have more composition based works. That deadline is in just over a week...
But hey, it looks like my top three schools may have narrowed to two school, but we'll have to see where all I end up getting in.
Alright, enough storytelling about me. This is probably the end of the chapter and I just wanted to tell you all some good news.
Also I may have some time over the long weekend coming up to actually write another oneshot for this book, there's also still college application stuff for December first to do, but just maybe...
Oh, and the art attached was something I drew on a white board while having the minor panic attack while waiting in the first line.
