like she expected, her and clay hadn't lasted more than a few months before they stopped talking. partially due to their friendship thriving through in person contact, and the other part being because they had become so caught up in other things that they no longer found time for each other.

however, astrid was now 20 and back in florida. she no longer had contact with clay once she got a new phone, and there was no way of retrieving it. who knew throwing it across a football field would do so much damage? definitely not her high school friends.

that, however, is beside the point. she was attending the university of central florida, majoring in psychology. an interest for psychology sparked in her. understanding the mind and the way people behaved was just fascinating.

leaving clay had more cons than she would've guessed. like second guessing her actions when it came to making friends. however, that didn't stop her from meeting harlow smith.

astrid met harlow on the first day at her new school. they sat next to each other in their third period biology class. their first actual conversation being after the teacher walked into class late and almost fell over another student's backpack, putting them into a fit of laughter. ever since that first day, they only grew closer as her and clay fell apart. and of course harlow had known everything about clay and astrid, and even what the letter said.

astrid walked into her apartment after a long day of classes. she's only lived here for about a year. it was almost four in the afternoon and all she had eaten that day was a protein bar. she decided she'd go to chic fil a since harlow had been telling her to go for the longest time and then the store before starting on her schoolwork.

she grabbed her keys once again and started walking down the stairs to the lot where her car was parked. once inside she started her car, but just as she was about to reverse her phone started ringing.

it was harlow. she clicked the green button, putting the phone up to her ear, "hello?"

"astrid! hey, how were classes today?"

"hey harlow, they were the same as usual, slow and boring. watcha up to?" she just wanted some food.

"oh me and oliver are about to go out for some food, what are you up to?"

"well i was about to go get some food before you called me, so bye!" she really just wanted some food.

"bye! facetime me later ok?"

"okay." and with that astrid hung up. finally going to get some food. she arrived there around seven minutes later.

she got out of her car and locked it while walking toward the front. she noticed a guy walking toward it too. she hesitated on whether she should jog and hold the door open or not, but before she could come to a conclusion he had done exactly that.

like she assumed any other human would, she lightly ran up to the door. she turned to face the guy holding the door for her, wanting to thank him. but apparently there were other plans. she looked at him and felt a sense of familiarity. like she's seen him before. both holding eye contact so tense they completely forgot the world around them.

clay. he looked like clay. but she wasn't too sure if it was him. i mean, it's been years. any dirty blond guy with green-ish eyes and freckles could be clay, right?

"um, sorry. thank you!" she said, finally snapping out of her thoughts. while she stood in line, she couldn't help but steal glances at him. he just felt so familiar.

she finally got her chicken nuggets and waffle cut fries. sitting at a table in the corner of the fast food place, enjoying her meal. and there he was, sitting only two tables down from her but he didn't have food. she quickly finished her food and walked out to her car.

as she drove, she couldn't help but think back to him. why was he so familiar to her? a complete stranger. she didn't know why, and quite frankly she didn't want to.

finally, she was pulling into the target parking lot and getting out of her car. she only needed a few groceries. you know, the usual milk, chocolate milk powder, eggs, cereal, and ice cream. not without forgetting to literally walk around the whole store before she actually bought the stuff she came for.

at this point in her "adventure" around the store, she was in the pet aisle. looking at the little costumes they had when she noticed a pair of black wings. they were perfect. she quickly put them in the cart with everything else and paid. practically speeding home after.

astrid | astridstorm
i moved to oregon when we were 16 and our friendship
was really dependent on being able to see each other all
the time so we kinda just fell apart ://
