I stood still with my back pressed against the tree trying to piece together what I'd just witnessed. Conor with his black hair always followed by the tan haired boys matching the wolves that had been attacked by the light brown one. The three that retreated looked identical to the three that attacked me in the old house on Rooks Lane. As I was lost in my thoughts I heard a whine from behind the tree I had been hiding behind. I peaked my head around slowly again to see the brown wolf leaning over a light grey one with red markings. I tried to look closer at the markings and leant on the tree only to snap a small branch off. My eyes connected with green eyes and I tilted my head curiously trying to make out what was happening. The grey wolf stood up slowly then, when the smaller brown one tried to help, it snapped at them showing bright red eyes. The brown one bowed its head with a whimper while the grey one growled before turning and leaving with a limp. The brown wolf, now alone, sat there staring at the ground before looking back at me. Where the green eyes once sat were now black as night. For the first time since seeing the wolves I didn't feel scared. I felt sorry for them. I slowly stepped out from behind the tree to see the brown wolf look towards the direction the grey one had gone before running towards me with speed I couldn't believe. The wolf ran up to me then stopped, it's head the same height as my ribs, and nudged me gently. I stepped back while keeping my eyes trained on the deep black circles only to be nudged again, this time in the side, causing me to turn around. I continued to feel the warm breath on my lower back while I was nudged forward until I was walking deep into the forest. I found myself stumbling back into the clearing with the lake I had been in a few nights ago with Alexis. I turned around to look at the wolf, curious as to what it wants from me only to find nothing there. I stood there, my eyes darting around the trees, now becoming slightly worried about the whereabouts of the wolf
"Hey Luka" I heard from behind me. I turned around to see Alexis sitting on a rock near the water in a short, pleated skirt with a white tank tucked in.
"Uh, hey?" I questioned as I looked around again for the wolf and slowly made my way towards her.
"Looking for something?" She asked with a small laugh
"Did you, by any chance, see like.. a big.." I stumbled while gesturing my hands around
She only giggled in response.
"Yeah, didn't think so" I muttered as I sat on the grass next to the water. Alexis hopped off the rock and walked over to me and gracefully dropped to sit next to me.
"Did you walk all the way out here with no shoes on?" I questioned while looking at her bare feet.
"Uhm" she thought
"It's okay. You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to" she gave me a small smile and I could see pain behind her sweet eyes.
"If you do want to talk, I'm here for you" I added
She rested her head gently on my shoulder, sending shivers through my body as my shoulder felt like it was now on fire, my body jumped at her touch. Alexis quickly sat back upright and apologised again as her eyes trailed along my arm.
"Where have you been?" I asked softly as I raised my hand to hers leaving only a thin gap between them.
"Father wanted to try the homeschooling again" she mumbled, a tinge of anger on her words
"You had me worried" I laughed
"I'm sorry" she apologised again, her soft brown eyes looking up at me
"Hey, you don't need to keep apologising to me. It's okay" I offered, our hands now so close I could feel her warmth on my palm
Alexis smiled softly before she tapped her pointer finger against mine, sending sparks through my arm.
"Does it tingle for you too?" I asked, hesitantly. I've held a few hands but I've never felt anything like this before
"It feels like I'm touching an electric fence" she giggled as she went through each finger, lightly tapping them against mine
"In a good way though" I added
"A really good way" she sighed with a smile
I gently ran my fingers through hers as our hands collided, sending sparks and fire and shivers all up my arm while simultaneously making my heart pound against my chest so hard I swear she could have heard it
Alexis' face lit up as our fingers intertwined and we sat silently next to the lake for about half an hour, just watching the water before she broke the silence. And our hand holding session.
"My father, he's very traditional. He's also very stubborn" she started as she played with the fabric on the end of my black shirt.
"When he found out I had been to Rooks Lane he wasn't happy with me. I tried to tell him that I just wanted to help but he warned me. I of course didn't listen, thinking the fact he was my father would somehow spare me of the punishment" she paused and I stayed quiet letting her think.
"You saw them. The black one and his two little followers" she looked up at me, tears threatening to break from her eyes. I nodded slowly in response. Was she talking about earlier today or that night in rooks lane?
"They attacked us. Due to my fathers stubbornness we were too weak to hold them off. My father got injured. I tried to help him but he said it was my fault" she sniffled and wiped her eyes aggressively.
"He banished me for trying to help him!" She cried as the tears fell. I gently rubbed my hand up and down her back not knowing what to say. She turned to look at me as her eyes flashed black. I quickly dropped my hand and scooted back.
"Your eyes.." I mumbled
"Yeah. Black now. A fucking Rogue! I can't believe he would do this to me!" I could sense her anger building as her eyes grew darker
"My own father. Banishing his only daughter and best delta he had!" She stood up and threw a small rock half way across the lake where It sunk with a large splash. I stood up and backed into the large Boulder she had previously been sitting on when I first saw her.
She turned to look at me, her brows furrowed over her dark eyes, anger clear across her face.
"All because of you" she whispered. She slowly started walking closer to me as I pushed myself against the rock as hard as I could. I've ran behind her before, I know she's faster than me. I have no chance of running, maybe I can push myself so hard against this rock it sucks me in
"Me? What did I do?" My voice broke as I spoke
"You had to go and get yourself killed and force me to break my father's trust!" She stormed over to me and put her hands against the rock on either side of me. Though she was much shorter than me, only standing as tall as my chest, I was scared.
"God, why do you have to smell so good" she pushed her face into my chest and took in a deep breath through her nose before her hands fell from the rock and she lifted them to rest on my chest which now felt as though it was melting beneath red hot coal. Her tense frame relaxed against my body as I felt her continuing her deep breathing
"Are you going to hurt me?" I questioned quietly
She looked up at me, her eyes now a soft brown.
"I could never. Even if I wanted to"
"Do you want to?" I gulped
"In ways you would never understand"
