"i brought cookies!" gioia smiled while walking towards the group of five. in her hands were two small boxes of chocolate chip cookies.

"great!"

"thanks, gb."

"i would have purchased more, but someone..." she turned to hawk, "stole two dollars from me."

hawk grinned and sent her a wink, "it was a bet and i won."

"sure, sure." she rolled her eyes while placing the boxes on miguel's lap.

she turned around and moved over to the monkey bars in front of the bench. while she attempted to sway on them, hawk sparred with a younger student while the other three perched on the bench.

"come on, eat something - have a cookie." demetri comforted the troubled boy, "it'll make you feel better."

"i told you i'm not hungry, man." miguel sighed.

"i still think you're overreacting." demetri shrugged while gioia dusted her hands and walked over to them.

"i'm not overreacting, dude. i know what i saw." miguel frowned.

the night before, he had seen samantha and another boy having dinner with the girl's family in the backyard - something miguel had wanted to do with his girlfriend.

"all right, so saw her eating dinner with some chode?" in a quick movement, hawk swung his leg around and knocked bert down.

"oh!"

gioia gave him a look, gesturing to the boy on the ground. hawk sighed and peered at the smaller child. when he saw bert was okay, hawk gave gioia a thumbs up and rested on the back of the bench.

"it's probably just her brother or something." the boy suggested.

"no, dude, brothers don't look at their sisters like that." miguel exclaimed.

"depends on what part of the country you're in." demetri muttered.

"gross." gioia grimaced.

"look, i just don't want what happened to sensei to happen to me." miguel concluded, making gioia sigh.

"all right, so you go over to this kid and beat his ass so he doesn't have the chance." hawk stated.

demetri rolled his eyes, "don't listen to eli."

"it's hawk." the boy quickly corrected.

"yeah, whatever." demetri seemed unimpressed as he spoke, "the fact is, sam's given you no reason not to trust her."

"metri is correct. do not jump into conclusion, miguel." gioia nodded.

"yeah, i guess you two are right."
