The fig trees are leafy and green again
pure vibrance against grey branches and trunk,
like our radiant spirits under these ashen skies
-a prepossesing contradiction.
The dried-up streams are full and loud again,
sweet water sprightly running through earth's veins
before the inevitable arrival of summer's cruel drought,
& just like that we will resume our cryptic conversations,
forsake worry and embrace uncertainty,
reminding each other of our eternal promises that defy time
just like the cicadas will resume their summer songs.
