tipsy on a supermarket wine,
laying on the carpet with the fan on,
listening to an instrumental of her favourite song
as she thinks
"there's no way life gets better than this"
because the walls, the ceilings, and the floors
are sturdier than the wall surrounding her soul;
perhaps a physical manifestation of the protection she seeks
is a better alternative than a spirit in an eternal siege,
or a fortress constantly and tediously needing to be rebuilt.
so, here she shall remain;
comfortably confined in a cage of her own making
--the only one that lacks the aching.
