FIVE years had passed since Ingrid fled New Orleans with their family while leaving Klaus behind at the mercy of Marcel. Nine months after leaving, Ingrid gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who she named Eirik after her father.

Over the course of the past five years, Ingrid began searching for the seven wolf packs that Lucien used for the enhancement spell. At this point, she had managed to find six and extract enough venom from each one, meaning there was only one pack separating her from saving her family. She had found a cure for Freya's poison and a witch to siphon the hex from Rebekah.

Instead of moving them around several times, Ingrid had settled down in Montana where she took care of several livestock while home schooling her children. They lived in a small country house on five acres of land in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees. There were no neighbors in sight and the drive into town was at least forty-five minutes.

It would seem like a blissful life on the outside but inside, Ingrid was doing everything possible to keep herself from falling apart. She would put on a brave face for her children but at the end of the day, she would cry herself to sleep most nights.

The first few years were challenging for Ingrid. She had juggle going through her pregnancy, giving birth, and being the mother to a new born and a toddler all by herself with no help whatsoever. As promised, Ingrid did what she could to teach them about Klaus. She told them stories, showed them photos, anything to make it seem like he was just off on a business trip instead of being held prisoner by her eldest son.

Ingrid pushed the screen door open and stepped out onto the porch. "Children, time for dinner!" She yelled loudly while walking down the stairs. When she didn't get an immediately answer, the hybrid frowned and used her supernatural senses to tune into her surroundings. Ingrid followed the stone path toward the barn, hearing the horses bray off into the distance.

Approaching the barn, she heard two small voices hushing each other quickly and smirked widely to herself. Opening the door, Ingrid saw the two little Mikaelsons standing oddly close with their hands behind their back and wide smiles on their faces.

"Hi, mommy!" Eirik greeted her happily while waving a hand at her, trying to cover up what was behind his back.

Ingrid studied them for a moment with narrowed eyes then placed her hands on her hips and questioned them. "What's going on? What are you hiding?"

"Nothing!" Hope answered quickly causing Ingrid's suspicions to rise.

Folding her arms over her chest, Ingrid raised an eyebrow at them and spoke in a disapproving tone of voice. "Hope, what did I say about lying?"

"If you lie, no one will believe you when you're telling the truth!" Eirik quoted his mother in a matter of fact fashion and looked at his sister smugly.

Hope glared at him and shoved his shoulder. "Stop being a suck up!"

"I'm not!" Eirik whined while pushing her back and the two began to argue loudly with one another.

"Okay!" Ingrid clapped her hands together, getting their attention, and gave them a stern look. "Keep your hands to yourselves. Now..." she trailed off with a small smile. "What are we hiding?"

The children shared a look before holding out their hands to reveal they were holding two black kittens. Ingrid glanced at the kittens then back at them with a conflicted expression. "Guys, I thought I told you we can't keep them."
