Yellow Kite

With his eyes fixated on the saffron kite that flew in the canal blue sky as Jimin felt his eyes tearing up. Gazing at the kite, he asked quietly,

"Have you ever wanted to relive a moment?"

Min paused as she thought hard. Did she truly enjoy any part of her life so far? However, nothing popped up in her head.

"Not really,"

The silence filled the gap between the two of them but they did not feel awkward at all. Min rested her feet on the bench and put her knees close to her chest as she took a deep breath.

"I've never really felt happy before,"

Min continued, taking in a deep breath of the crisp and cool air as she felt her nose slowly turn cold and numb. Jimin pursed his lips as he was still looking at the saffron kite flying in the sky. It looked so free and filled with hope. Something he wished they both still had.

"I was 8 when me and my mother went to a field covered with daisies. She laid down a picnic mat and made countless of pastries and cakes. I brought my favourite saffron kite and ran around the mat, flying it in the sky,"

Jimin muttered, a small smile forming on his face as he gazed at the saffron kite in the sky. Min turned to look at him before looking up at the kite that only flew higher and higher. She felt her heart grow heavy. Somehow, she was feeling envious.

"That was the last time I flew that kite. The last time I felt free,"

Jimin whispered, his smile slowly vanishing as he finally broke his gaze from the kite and looked down at the ground. Staring at Jimin, Min asked,

"Why can't you fly it anymore?"

"The string broke,"

Jimin's voice trailed off as his gaze dropped to the ground. His nose stung but he refused to allow himself to let the tears come out. Standing up from the bench, he hung his head low with his back facing Min as he said, tight-lipped,

"Maybe, one day you could have a moment you wish to relive. With someone you care for,"

Min's gaze was fixated on Jimin as he walked off. As his silhouette slowly grew smaller and smaller, Min lowered her head and stared at the ground. Kicking the small rocks on the ground, she mumbled,

"Hopefully."
