---(Two and a half years later)---

"Alright, we'll transfer the sum as soon as we can. Medical recovery should be around a hundred thousand Euro, and transferred to you next week."

"Thank you, Mr Krüger. The People's Republic of China will always be grateful for your country's support."

He smiled slightly and scribbled another word down on his notepad. "Tell Mr Chan I hope for his full recovery." He added a second later, waiting for the reply and then ending the call quickly. China dropped out of the war last week, that was good. His country had been a force to fight against, for the Allies at least. He wasn't going to play any part of it. The nuclear attacks from the combined efforts of Britain, France and America finally took down the superpower.

China as the countryhuman wasn't doing very well. And his country had offered to send some money to them for repairs and clean-up. He wanted to call China personally, hoping that maybe they could get him here and offer him better treatment for the damage on his own body. The calls were never answered.

Germany ran a hand over his face, tiredly looking at the horrible mess of papers on his desk with no intention of organizing them. A picture of him and Russia framed up and treasured was stashed in a drawer for its own safety, their bright smiles and happiness hidden away in the darkness.

Despite being Neutral and planning to stay that way for as long as he could help it, he had kept track of the war diligently and tried his very best to get his country as strong as he could, armed well and protected from all borders in case anyone decided to make a surprise attack. Soviet Russia's army took nearly half of South America in less than ten days a year ago, driving inland with alarming speed. It was in the same month he finally submitted the first blueprint for one of his own tank designs to his military ministry.

He peeled off another sticky note and stuck that to the edge of his computer screen, mindlessly chewing on the top of his pen. There really wasn't a reason for him to be here, at headquarters. He could be at home, relaxing and enjoying the leisure of being Neutral, or getting drunk, or mourning Russia again. He'd rather not do the third opinion, that's why he was here, working.

"Germany? Can I come in?" A voice, followed by a knock on his door brought him back to attention, putting down the pen and straightening up from his slouched posture. "Y-Yeah."

Portugal appeared at the doorway, his lips quirking into a small smile despite his exhausted features, his arms held open by his sides. "Surprise, We're back-" He tried in a cheerful voice, clearly beaconing for a hug. Germany stood up quickly from behind his desk and walked towards him, hugging him tightly as his friend laughed at his reaction, which he was in no mood to acknowledge right now. He missed him.

"I wasn't expecting you guys here for at least another 4 months, how are you guys back already?" Germany smiled, pulling away and immediately feeling crest-fallen again when Portugal's small smile fell, amber coloured eyes dimming. "Britain needed medical attention. One of the nukes hit and caused him pain for some reason."

"He wants to see you." He added, looking at him again. "...Right now?"

"Yeah. Called you by name and all. He's in the wards. Norway was hooking him up to some painkillers when I came to get you." Portugal said. Germany paused for a second to think, then nodded before they walked out of his office towards the medical floor of their building.

In there, it was almost like a hospital, all white and kept at pristine levels by Norway and Switzerland. 20 rooms, decked out with the best medical help technology could offer. Portugal lead him towards one of them and gently knocked, hearing a soft answer from inside before opening it.
