"I was thinking of going back to my place first." Russia said simply, closing the car door behind him once they were both settled into their seats, glancing over at his date.

"Okay, sure!" Germany replied chirpily, still bright and well-awake, sitting politely with his hands folded over his lap, his black tuxedo neatly pressed. Russia smiled softly at his prim behaviour and started the engine, pulling out of their parking spot near the restaurant they just had dinner in.

It was one of Moscow's rare clear days in the summer, the night sky a dark blue that was nearly black, lit by a faint shadow of the moon and glimpses of stars.

He would hope that the date had gone well, Germany had laughed and talked about his day, smiling at him like he was the only person in the room. Russia could listen to him talk, and watch his honey golden irises glimmer for hours.

The drive back to his house near the outskirts of Moscow was spent in comfortable silence, keeping to themselves, eyes on the window and on the road. Russia kept stealing glances at him, a little bubble of excitement building up the closer they got to his home, flicking the turn signal before swerving the car into the familiar lane.

"We're here." He announced as soon as they parked, hands betraying his excitement as he unbuckling his seatbelt fast. Germany giggled, following suit.

"I know." His cheeks were dusted pink underneath his red and gold flag colours, black hair rustling in the cold breath that rushed in when they both opened the door. His eyes peeked at him over the car roof, narrowing in playful suspicion.

"Are you planning something? You're acting... well-" Germany tried to say, melting into a smile again as Russia walked over to his side of the car, gesturing for him to follow.

Russia pursed his lips as he pulled out his keys for the door, cursing his own inability to stay passive until the exact moment, turning around to face Germany with his back to the unlocked door quickly.

"You'll find out. Now, close your eyes." He said, trying to keep his expression neutral to not reveal anything else. Germany raised his eyebrows in surprise, glancing behind him at the hard oak wood door. There was no sign of what could possibly be waiting for them inside.

With a playful huff, he smoothed his face clean of emotion, clearing his throat and dutifully closing his eyes. Russia stood there for a few more seconds, watching half to make sure he wasn't peeking, and half to admire the person he had in front of him right now, who he was dating and planning surprises for.
