I concentrate on my parchment, scribbling down notes from Professor McGonagall's entirely too long lecture. I readjust my quill, sliding it down my finger and off the irritated, throbbing area of my skin. Suddenly, a paper airplane slides onto the surface of my desk, causing the uncomfortable expression on my face to turn into one of curiosity.
'You like purple right? -M' I glance back at Maddie who waits hopefully, a subtle grin resting comfortably on her pink lips. I nod my head with a confused expression. She taps the top of her wrist, mouthing the word 'later' and shifts her attention back to the Scottish Professor at the front of her room.
I could tell by just how she was watching that she wasn't retaining anything, her focus was elsewhere and I'd assumed it had to do something with the fact that tomorrow is my birthday. My sweet sixteen as everyone likes to remind me.
Her and Hermione begin a hushed conversation in whispers at the back of the room but are soon scolded for being a distraction. I smirk, keeping my eyes down as Blaise and I start a game of tic-tac-toe in the margins of my notes.

By the end of the day, still no one had told me anything besides Belle's little slip up at mentioning that they're planning a 'special party.' We attend quite a few parties a year, whether the staff of the school have acknowledged them or not. We try to keep them on the down low most of the time but sometimes people can get a bit too carried away with the fire whiskey before making it back to their dorms and end up passed out on the stairs. True story, it may or may not have occurred at my last birthday party, involving a certain blonde Slytherin boy with an ego larger than his brain. But, more than I'd like to admit, he is quite fun to hang around at parties.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I giggle at the curly blonde haired girl's unintentional comment.
"Nothing important yet. Just know that it's going to be so much better than the other ones you've had. And just letting you know, you're going to love it so don't be worried okay?" Belle chimes with a gleaming white smile. I glance to Fred who sits across from George, his arms crossed as he waits for his brother to put down the next card of their game, while also nonchalantly listening to the conversation.
"Will I Fred?" I ask for reassurance, shifting my body in his direction as I sit on the velvety red couch of the common room. I don't like being the center of attention at the best of times, it makes me anxious knowing I'm the only thing everyone is looking at while at a party.
"Of course, love. I can recall when you said that you would enjoy attending one of these special parties. You may not remember, but I do. I have an excellent memory." He winks. I subconsciously roll my eyes, slightly shaking my head as a joke.
"Sooo, what are we wearing?" I turn back to the tan skinned brunette who sits on the edge of her seat.
"You're wearing purple. Well, actually it's more of a plum but that's beside the point. We all thought you'd look good in it." Maddie admits.
"You look great in anything y/n." Belle adds sweetly from the back of the room, now seated beside Rowan somewhat awkwardly. They always seem to act like that when they are around each other, Hermione thinks it's just how they are, but Belle doesn't act like that around Enzo. They seem like the more 'brother and sister' type friends, I'm pretty damn sure it's not like that with Rowan.
"Honestly though." Maddie agrees. Heat rushes to my cheeks knowing that Fred is most definitely in someway agreeing with the statement.
"So, right now we know for sure that all the boys will be matching, simple black suit and black m-" Ginny's knowing expression drops and Hermione takes over in place of her.
