"WHAT!"

The glass-shattering screech could be heard throughout the castle, and the students closest to the owner of the sound, had their hands over their ears to stop them from bleeding.

Remus nearly crumpled to the ground when Della started yelling due to his heightened senses.

Peter looked only slightly startled by her loud outburst; having expected as much from the girl he adored.

Sirius tried and failed not to shudder in fear of the tiny Ravenclaw who stood before them.

And James just stared off towards the far wall, lost in the thoughts that swirled around his busy brain.

"What were you idiots thinking? You don't just go around throwing hexes and spells at people!" Della continued with her angry rant, her blue eyes ablaze with fury.

"We didn't -"

"Don't you dare even think of finishing that sentence, Sirius Black!" She hissed with narrowed eyes.

The boy ducked back and tried to hide behind Remus' taller form.

Alexander, watching from his seat on the couch in front of the fire, would have laughed at the sight if he hadn't been just as angry at the Gryffindor imbeciles.

The Ravenclaw boy stood and glared at James.

"What do you have to say about all of this, huh, Potter?" Alexander growled as he stepped closer to the dark-haired idiot who had put his little Birdie in the hospital wing again that day.

James absentmindedly turned to look at him, but all he did was frown and then shake his head.

"What, nothing?" Della hissed at him.

Peter thought she sounded like a cat, and this made him crack a nervous smile.

"I told her I was sorry," James muttered.

"Well, that's all fine and dandy then, Potter!" Della shouted, throwing her arms into the air in frustration.

"Where is she then? The hospital wing still?" Alexander asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

"I don't know," James said.

FLASHBACK

"Adelaide," He called softly.

She glanced over at him. "What, Potter?"

James took a deep breath and decided to do something he had seldom ever done.

"I'm sorry."

He apologized.

For the longest time, Adelaide had just stared at him with a torrid mixture of emotions playing across her face.

He moved away from the door so that he was fully turned towards her.

"I am sorry, Adelaide, truly!" James said more urgently.

She still didn't say anything, just watched him with weary eyes.

"Listen, we didn't - I didn't mean to -"

"Please leave James," Adelaide interrupted him quietly, shifting to lay on her side with her back to him.

The Griffindor boy was disappointed when she did this, unable to understand why he felt the sudden need to rush to her side and comfort her.

Instead, he decided to do as she said.

"Alright, I'll leave," James said slowly, backing his way out of the room.

Adelaide didn't respond.

The raven-haired boy sighed heavily and left her alone.

"Great! Well, I'm going to see her. Alexander, are you coming?" Della asked as she stomped towards the door to the Gryffindor common room.

"Yes. I'm coming," Alexander answered her, sending one last glance towards Remus before following his friend.

They hurried along the corridors, not speaking to each other over the anxieties they had about their friend.

When they arrived at the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey informed them that Adelaide was asleep.

"She is alright, though?" Della insisted.

Alexander was watching the girl lying in the hospital bed.

Her strawberry hair was splayed out on the pillow, and her face looked peaceful like she was a princess from a Muggle storybook.

"She will be just fine, dear. It was an easy enough spell to reverse, and I gave her a sleeping drought to help her rest and gain back her strength," Madam Pomfrey said in a reassuring voice.

The two Ravenclaws thanked the older Witch and moved to sit beside their friend.

"I can't believe that Potter and Black could be so stupid! Who goes around throwing hexes at people?" Della said with a snarl.

"At least she had Severus with her. And Peter came to tell us - you," Alexander chortled.

Della blushed, as she did nearly every time Peter was mentioned.

The green-eyed boy smiled slightly with pure happiness at the fact that one of his wonderful ladies had found their person.

It was a content feeling, knowing that someone you care about deeply is in love with another who truly adores them.

"That's true Severus is a good person," Della said softly.

"If only he would bloody ask Evans out already without Birdie helping him!" Alexander joked.

They laughed quietly so as not to wake Adelaide.

"Marcello scares me," Sirius muttered as he stared at the orange blaze burning in the hearth.

The Marauders were all sprawled on the sofas surrounding the fireplace, trying to figure out a plan on how to get off of the tiny Ravenclaw's naughty list.

Well, all except Peter.

Remus sighed and nodded his agreement.

James was slouched in an armchair, brows set in a deep frown.

His glasses were halfway down his nose, but he didn't give a damn; his only thoughts were of how disappointed he had been when Harthwood hadn't forgiven him.

He had said he was sorry. What else did she want?

What startled him the most was the rush of excitement he had experienced when Adelaide had called him by this first name and not just Potter.

He was supposed to love Lily, not someone he had only gotten to know this year, and then that was stretching it.

What it really meant was that he had seen her on the Pitch and then saw first-hand how good she was at the sport he loved.

He then spotted her around the castle and in the classes they had apparently shared for years now.

They had only spoken a hand full of times in a civilized manner.

So why was he feeling sick with the thought that he had caused her trouble?

He rarely cared who it was when he and Sirius pulled pranks on other students.

The look on Adelaide's face when he apologized played on repeat in his brain like a broken record.

What had he said that truly made her so upset?

And why the bloody hell did he care so much about a bloody Ravenclaw when he had the perfect girl right here in Gryffindor?

"Damn it!" James whispered to himself.
