"Prove it."

    A little TW: cutting

I paced back and forth outside Alyssa's house. We were fortunate that her parents weren't at home. I had no idea we were going to break the news to them. We couldn't possibly say, "Hey guys, we are vampires and are being hunted by a hybrid. That's why we wanted to stay away from you, to keep you safe," yeah, that would work out great. Klaus was disapproving. He strongly believed that telling them about us put us at even greater risk.

"They deserve to know. Besides, they can help us too," I reasoned with Klaus, but he still thought we were making a mistake. Dylan arrived first, and the three of us waited outside. He wasn't an actual student at school and only hung out with us when we didn't have classes; if not, he was at the library.

"What if we gave her a huge amount of vervain and mixed it with wolfsbane? Could that kill her?" Dylan asked. He was the first to know about our predicament. We'd mentioned how we were pretending to help Sheila, only secretly finding a way to kill her. "She survived a stake through the heart, and at the rate, she's been feeding, we are going to need to fill a swimming pool with vervain and wolfsbane if we want to kill her," Klaus replied. It was true, though; she had been feeding quite a lot, not making it too obvious.

When the girls, and Louis, arrived, it was hard to look at Sarah. I'd pushed her away without giving her a reason, and I had feelings for her. Louis and Kiara seemed hurt, but they weren't as hurt as Sarah. I really messed up.

"Before we start explaining, this is Klaus, my brother," I introduced. He took turns getting to know the rest and was particularly fond of Sarah, much to my annoyance. "I know we have been distant and without reason, but that changes today."

Sarah met my eye. There was confusion, hurt, anger and a bit of sympathy in them. Alyssa and I looked at each other, not knowing how to start. However, before we got a word out, Sarah stood up.

"I have a confession to make," she said, a look of guilt on her face. "A woman approached Kia and me at the library and asked about Vinnie and Niklaus, who I now know is Klaus. I told her you were at the cafeteria." She hung her head in shame. I didn't know how to respond or what to feel; instead, I put my arms around her shoulder. When my arm met her body, the sparks I felt made me shiver, and I wondered if she felt the same.

"There's really no better way to say this," Klaus started. "Actually, there is no way to say this without looking like idiots, but," he paused, looking over at Alyssa and Dylan, then at me.

"We're vampires," I stated. The silence that followed these words was deafening. It was hard to tell from their faces whether they believed us or not. "Yeah, and I am the star football player at Janesville High," Louis mocked. He didn't believe us. "They didn't have a good reason to leave, so they come up with bullshit like this," he said, turning to Kiara and Sarah, who had blank expressions on their faces.

"It's true," Alyssa croaked, holding back tears. I understood why she felt miserable. What could she do if her own twin brother and best friends didn't believe her?

Sarah faced me. She walked over, stopping inches before my face. "Prove it."

That took me by surprise. Sarah showed no signs of backing out, so I knew I had to in order to win their trust. Sarah dug through her bag and pulled out a pair of scissors. "Sarah, what are you doing?" Alyssa asked, worried. My eyes widened. She was going to cut herself.

She stuck her arm out, rubbing the scissors against her skin. I could tell Klaus getting impatient; while he could control his blood lust, he fed on humans and rarely drank from blood bags. Sarah looked at me, then turning to Alyssa, Dylan and Klaus. Without hesitation, she made a small cut on her arm. Blood instantly started oozing out, and she winced in pain. Alyssa, Dylan and Klaus backed away from her, and I shut my eyes. The smell of her blood was overwhelming.

"Holy shit!" Louis exclaimed. I opened my eyes and turned to Alyssa, Dylan and Klaus; their veins popping, bloodshot eyes and fangs all visible. I turned back to face Sarah; her eyes fixated on my face as she stroked it. I felt my fangs slowly retreat back in. After Kiara helped clean up the blood, Klaus turned to a pale-faced Louis and asked, "Do you believe us now?"
