"I'm turning fifty in two months, to be more precise,"

We were all standing around, waiting for Klaus to gain consciousness. Usually,  a vampire of his age takes half an hour maximum to regain their senses after their neck's snapped. Klaus was taking a while. "I'm starting to think he's dead," Louis said, Kiara, giggling in response.

Alyssa turned from Klaus to me and said, "I wish I could say I'm sorry." I laughed, even though I knew Alyssa didn't intend to snap his neck. We heard Klaus grunt, and while still facing downwards, he threatened Alyssa, "You're going to pay."

"You talk too much for a fifty-year-old male vampire who got his neck snapped by an eighteen-year-old female vampire," Alyssa shot back. Dylan high five her before wrapping his arms around her. I laughed too before realising what she'd said. "Fifty?" Sarah asked.

Klaus got up, glared at Alyssa before turning to Sarah. "I'm turning fifty in two months, to be more precise," he replied. Kiara, Louis and Sarah's mouths hung open. I knew why, too. We looked like teenagers, but we'd been turned thirty years ago when I was eighteen and Klaus was twenty. Vampires don't age, so we look the same as we did at the time Sheila turned us.

"We were turned forty years ago," I explained. There was a look of disgust mixed with shock on Sarah's face; I'm guessing it was because she was hanging out with two people more than twice her age. "Don't let our real age bother you from dating Vinnie; it's the age we look like currently that matters," Klaus added. Sarah looked at him in annoyance while I tried hard not to blush.

"Anyway, now that we've gotten the weird stuff cleared, let's talk about how we're going to kill Sheila," Louis said aloud. Klaus shook his head disapprovingly, yet, he didn't dispute it. "We're going to need a plan, a perfect one," Alyssa stated, all of us nodding in response.

"My dad works in the sheriff's station; I can ask him to check up on anyone with the last name 'Winston' or any mention of it," Kiara suggests. That was a good start. "The school library isn't the only library we can visit," Dylan adds. "There's a bigger one downtown."

"We need to divide ourselves and our responsibilities," I state. "Kiara, you check with your father. If he refuses to help, Alyssa can compel him. Dylan, Klaus, Louis and Alyssa, check the library for anything we can get on Janesville's history with vampires, vampires in general and werewolves." They all nod in response. "What are you and blondie going to do?" Klaus asked, earning himself a glare from Sarah.

"We're going to look for dad's journal," I reply.  Sarah meets my eye. I could see the glimmer in it. It was out of excitement, giving me the confidence I needed that everything would work out perfectly.

"Dad's journal was buried with him; I made sure of it," Klaus reminded. "I have to see for myself. Besides, dad was smart enough to know better than having his journal, the one which contained the most useful information about protecting ourselves, be buried with him," I added. Klaus let it slide; I could tell he was reasoning with himself.

"Let's kill this freak," I declare.
