What the hell?!

While urging the woman off me, I hoped to God that my baby hadn't witnessed the incident. Furthermore, that she hadn't misunderstood the situation.

Goddamnit, what was she even doing here?

No no no, shit! I scolded inwardly, How could you be so stupid? Why did you allow her to get so close?!

I made several attempts to subdue my woes, passing them off as nothing but unrealistic speculation. Although an erratic thumping that persisted in my chest, reminded me otherwise, threatening to make my heart break free of its cage.

Ultimately, all methods failed and I was left with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.

This is real, not some sick twisted nightmare.

Scratch that! It sure had the makings of a nightmare.

Passing a sweeping glance around, I pivoted, scanning the area, searching for the dazzling lady in red.

My fears amplified.

I could only imagine what the scene must have looked like to any spectators it might have attracted. However, by my terse reaction, I'm certain they would conclude that I was as uninvolved with the instigator as it gets.

Our relationship had ended on bad terms, well before I even met Paege.

"Baby," Ellie began, groaning suggestively while batting her eyes as though the act would somehow absolve her of all her misdeeds. "Aren't you happy to see me? I've missed you."

She had to be dreaming or under the influence of one or two of the world's strongest hallucinogens. In what dimension, would I entertain her fancies?

Evidently, the woman had taken me for a fool, not only believing that my memory was no longer than the length of my forearm but also that what she'd done was somehow forgivable and demanded no consequences.

Obviously, her poor judgement could not be further from the truth.

As if I'd make that wrong turn twice.

Ellie had to be insane if she thought that things would just pick up where they left off before she left me with a bad taste in the mouth. Before she took off with another man.

In fact, I should probably thank the guy for clearing out the trash because if it weren't for him I'd probably be miserable somewhere, going bald and missing out on all the blessings that had come my way ever since I'd met Paege.

I wouldn't have entertained her advances, even if she'd recurred within the past few years, and most certainly not now that I had Paege. Life had taught me a valuable lesson and I'd learnt it well.

"Baby?" The word slipped from my lips, laced with so much venom that Ellie subconsciously made a wise decision to take a step back, increasing the distance between us. "What the hell is the matter with you?!"

The sheer anger that rose in my chest, seemingly radiating off me, I tried to pacify. Regardless, I pinned her with a cold glare, warning her not to agitate me further.

The woman had completely ambushed me, out of nowhere. She appeared out of thin air and had instantly gone in for the kill. Not to mention, her grip was like velcro, so prising her away took more effort than I anticipated.

Searching the crowd, I dared to find the woman who'd coaxed me out of my haze and stirred in me the courage to attempt love again.

Only when my eyes glimpsed her retreating form, did I sprint into action, taking off after her. I recognized her outfit. By now, I knew it well.
