Paege

Danny woke me up with a kiss at the hollow of my neck.

His form towered over me easily as I was asleep on the sofa.

Even so, he was still a good few feet taller than me when I stood next to him.

His eyes studied mine a while before he broke into a boyish smile that made him look younger than his years.

My heart rate doubled as I stared at him.

I couldn't help but wonder.

"Hi," he greeted.

"H-hi," I groaned inwardly at my obvious dumbfounded state.

"I've got something for you," Danny held my legs together using one hand, lifting it up so that he could sit before he placed them atop his lap again.

"What's that?" I couldn't help but feel more comfortable as he rubbed my feet with his hands.

"You'll have to come with me to see it." He said as he took one of my hands, yanking me to sit in his lap.

I wrapped my arms around his neck before he stood hoisting me in his.

We left the study, entering the hall.

He carried me to the dining room where Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Andrews sat down to breakfast.

They all stared as he carried me to the table.

Bell winked at me despite the fact that I knew she was ready to dive in.

Both their parents offered genuine smiles our way as he lowered me into an available seat at the table.

They were all outside on the deck.

Not the same Danny had decorated for me a week ago but one nearer to the gallery.

The dining table was decorated with several dishes all of which contributed to my alertness.

I spotted pancakes, bacon, steaming omelettes, warm blueberry muffins, a bowl of fruit salad, bread and biscuits, to name a few.

"Good morning, Paege," They chorused.

"Good morning," I beamed back at them.

"Did you sleep well?" Mrs. Andrews chimed.

"Yes thank you, Mrs. Andrews." I couldn't help but blush at the attention I was getting.

Danny sat beside me, causing my face to warm up a few degrees.

It had been quite a while since I had breakfast with a family.

Namely, my own and it served to make me remember all that I missed.

"Please call me, Leighton," She smiled warmly at me. "How is your head?"

"It's better. I'm doing better, thank you."

"I can't tell you how surprised I was to have a Masters under my roof." Mr. Andrews said before drinking a portion of his orange juice.

I could see where Daniel got his defined jawline, large frame and intimidating height from even his menacing eyes.

"Kamren, leave her be." Mrs. Andrews began, Bell chuckled and Danny sighed beside her.

"I've been following your father's work, Phillip Masters," At that, Mr. Andrews offered a smile. "King of the 'Smokin' Guns'."

"Daddy is a big fan of your father's." I couldn't help but offered a watery smile.

They knew of my father.

I watched as Daniel took each dish around to distribute a portion each to my plate, then his. Mine in neater, smaller portions than his.

On closer inspection, I spotted a pair of crutches near him at the table.

I look up to see his eyes on me before they followed where mine had previously been.

I couldn't help but blush at the discovery.

"I know that you don't want to stay cooped up indoors all the time so we got you a pair of these to help you walk around for the time being," Daniel explained.

"Thank you," I replied, nodding at them all in acknowledgement.

"Not at all," his mother replied.

*****

Later that day, I went into the stables using my new pair of crutches. I had not seen the one who kept me alive in weeks. I push open the stable door before closing it.

The neigh of the horses reached my ear and the instant memory of my mother hit with a vengeance.

I stroked Datson, a grey mare that I had come to know other than Angel.

She was a rough one.

The other horses were all male so she had no choice but to behave aggressively or they would walk over her.

After some time of petting the other horse, I stepped in front of his stall, resting the crutches against the door so that I leaned on it.

I watched as Angel shyly stepped towards me, showing that our bond was still in contact.

He turned his head to the side, eyeing me with his soft and dark eyes glistening, the lights playing in them.

"Thank you, Angel," By the time I said those words, tears were already spewing from my eyes.

"Paege?" I heard as the door closed shut behind me.

I started at the sound of his voice.

I looked up to see Daniel already making his way towards me.

He enveloped me in his warm solid embrace, pressing my head gently into his shoulder.

"It's alright, Baby," Daniel cooed. "I'm right here, you just let it all out."

At his words, the floodgates opened and I couldn't contain myself.

My knees were going weak as I hugged his waist, holding on for dear life.

I cried into his shoulder, letting out all the pain I felt, both physically and emotionally.

When I was able to speak, but not before my tears were gone, Daniel held the crutches in one hand and me in the other.

He sat me in his lap and I rest my head in the crook of his neck.

I told him my story.

About my parents, my sister.

About my horse.

About our home.

About how many times I wanted to scream.

Everything and he sat patiently, taking it all in.

I pressed my nose against his neck, nuzzling him at the hollow before subconsciously placing a soft kissed against his neck.

I felt him tense below me at my action.

Despite his reaction, however, I placed another kiss along his neck then another where his neck met his shoulder.

I felt his hand travel up my back to the nape of my neck before he gently pulled me to face him, shortly before taking my lips in a feverishly urgent kiss.
