Chapter 9

After hours of sleep, tae woke up the
next morning feeling very hungry. Okay, he's not had enough food in his stomach in about two days. At the same time he felt a sweet smell. Even though it was difficult him to walk, he got up and followed the aroma. At that moment, he realized that he had entered the kitchen of that house. Gukie was making food, so he sat down on a bench next to him.

"Mmm.. The aroma is so good." Said tae, who didn't know how to shut his mouth. Gukie gasped and looked at him before turning again not caring about tae. Tae felt sad.. he is someone who likes to joke with others. Yeah he is very social. On the other hand, it was a little difficult tae to get used to this new environment, who used to work with the gang while in the army. On the other hand, gukie and he don't fit in with their age. But seeing the cute little boy made tae feel like he needed to be taken care of him. It's understandable though.. he met such a little boy after a long time. So it's no surprise that tae feels gukie is like a brother or a child.

"May I help you?" Tae asked again.

"Cut those onions if you can." That time gukie answered. So the difficulty was put aside and tae went to do what gukie said.

"Where's the knife?"

"Look at that shelf over there."

Tae went to the spot where gukie showed and pulled out a knife and suddenly everything fell down creating a loud noise. Tae looked at gukie and grinned at him before picking them up again and put them in order.

Then, as he was chopping the onion, it slipped and rolled on the floor.

"The onion is wrong.. why did it have to be round ??" Tae said so and took the onion and washed it from the pot of water that gukie had kept. Gukie shook his head and started doing his job again. Then tae somehow cut the onion and gave it to the younger.

"Such thick pieces?" When gukie saw the big pieces of onion, smoke came out of his ears.

"Why.. are they too big?"

"No, this is the beessstt size. Please, just listen to me.. can you go ahead and wait until I'm done cooking? You're are not allowed in this kitchen." Gukie said as calmly as he could and pushed tae out of the kitchen.
Tae still didn't realize what he had done wrong, but when the little one got angry, he went to the living room because gukie is scary when he is angry. Then he picked up a book that was on the table, but he didn't know how to read Korean letters, so he put the book aside.

After a while, gukie brought some dishes and put them on the small table and asked Tae to sit on the floor on one side and sit on the other. As soon as gukie said that, tae came and sat down in front of the little one.

"Umm... wow.. it's so delicious... This is the most delicious food I had after I came here." Tae said honestly as he took his first bite. Yeah It's possible that gukie makes yummy food than the chefs in military kitchen. After hearing his praises, the little one's face turned pink and his eyes glowed.

"Don't lie."

"Not a lie.. your food tastes as good as the food my mom makes." Tae said with a sweet smile.

After the two of them finished eating, tae told gukie about his military life.

"So why did you join the army? Your family might miss you a lot."

"I always wanted to join the army like my dad. At first my mom objected. But then my will was allowed. I have a sister. She also didn't want me to join the army. I didn't think that much at that time. But now I miss them a lot. " Gukie could clearly see that tae's eyes were wet as he said. So gukie realized that the elder loved his family very much.
