emily charlton from the devil wears prada ( emily blunts' character )

i wrote this while sitting on my kitchen floor ( the floor just hits different idk ) anyways i'm terribly sorry if this is utter crap or doesn't match to your request fully

kinda proof read ig, idk

"move it !!" miranda marched threw the halls, shades on, designer bag in hand. a small gaggle of people followed behind her ready to act and alter on each request given by the woman

"emily, here" with that andrea ran to her side, notepad ready to take notes

"no. emily one !!" the brunette scurried back behind her desk being replaced by the redhead who was bombarded by miranda's schedule

emily's pov

miranda just spoke and spoke, listing times and offering snarky comments and opinions. i wrote everything down, pointing for a person to get something every now and then. this was routine, everything was sorted. well, that was until miranda started asking for lists of people attending tonights gala. i wasn't going, andrea was going instead and i was suppose to be at home by four at the latest but it was obvious she expected me to attend

"miranda i'm actu-"

"emily two. my coat, my bag" she threw her belongs on andreas desk, walking straight into her office, me hot on her heels

"actually miranda, andrea is going-" i tried reminding her of the fact that i was not meant to be attending said gala

"you. i need you there and that is final" she spoke matter-of-factly, pointing at the door and leaving no room for reason

"nigel !! go get me nigel !!" and with that i left getting the final preparations ready for tonight, making sure to give andy the hardest death stare as i passed her

~

i had been so lost up in getting everything ready that i had forgot to at least message y/n that i'll be home a little later and that i was sorry so i clawed the device out of my pocket and began writing an apology paragraph

i was about to press send when the screen went black. my phone died. here i am in a car with miranda, on the way to the gala, with a dead bloody phone. i was internally screaming, y/n is going hate me.

it was four o'clock, emily was due back any second

everything was set up from the warm food on the table to the soft music in the background, an anniversary fit dinner i'd say.

me and emily have been together for two years. the beginning of the relationship was definitely hard, em focussed all her time and energy on miranda and hardly gave me the time of day but we got past her need to please the older woman and she'd started spending more time with me. when andrea, or emily two as people like to call her, was hired emily had more time then ever. she even got to come home earlier, which was amazing especially for days like today, she didn't have to wait for miranda hand and foot all of the time

four o'clock soon past but to be honest i didn't think much of it, the ice queen probably gave her an impossibly hard request to magically achieve before she left

when the clock on the kitchen wall showed five o'clock i checked my phone for probably the hundredth time but nothing. she must really be caught up

another hour and it was six. i began eating my already mostly cold food, i actually cooked myself which i was quite proud of, not going to lie. it took a while don't get me wrong but for a two year anniversary i was willing to put in the effort

two more hours. eight o'clock. whatever miranda has emily doing has kept her behind four hours. the candle in the middle of the table had burnt out around half an hour ago and the food on the other side must be stone cold. it had been a long day at work and already figured emily wasn't going to be home anytime soon, i dragged myself to bed, only changing into one of emilys top and loose pj shorts

tonight was meant to be special.

eleven o'clock the gala finished. i was seven hours late. i wasn't even able to give her a valid reason as my phone died. she must honestly hate me and i don't blame her

opening the door to our shared apartment i was meant by pitch black and silence. she had obviously gone to bed, her days work tiring her out

when i turn on the lights my heart broke a little. there was a cute red cloth over our table, a candle in the middle of it and two plates. one had been eaten while the other, i presume mine, had been left untouched, a post-it note next to it reading 'heat me up <3'

and that's what i did, i heated up my meal in the microwave and sat alone at the table eating, just as she must have done several hours beforehand.

once i finished the meal i didn't bother washing the dishes, i was not in the mood, i just wanted y/n. the guilt of leaving her waiting at home for me, without explanation, was eating me alive. it was our anniversary and i, emily charlton, had ruined it

i entered our shared room slowly, not wanting to wake the sleeping y/n. she was wrapped up in our fluffiest blanket, in my shirt of all things. when i got closer to her it was clear to see she had been crying, around her eyes was red raw.

i quickly hopped in the shower trying to be as quick as possible. when i finished i dried off and got into one of y/ns shirt, a welcome comfort

i gently got in next to her, pulling her practically on top of me. i started drawing circles on her exposed collarbone, slowly tracing the patterns down her arm until i got to her hand to which i cautiously intertwined our fingers. that action caused y/n to stir slightly and she opened one eye to immediately close it again upon seeing me

"i'm so, so, so, sorry y/n. i mean it, i am !! i'm sorry..." she began apologising over and over again, all i did was stare at her as she spoke. honestly, i was half asleep. "andrea was meant to go to the gala but miranda she just..." just as she spoke the witches name i pieced things together. miranda had roped emily into doing andreas job and knowing her, left no room for reason

she soon noticed my prolonged silence and looked my way

"it's not your fault em, that old bag could have got andy to do it. please don't be sorry on her behalf" i mumbled, earning a relieved sigh

"c'mere" i opened my arms offering her a hug to which she accepted rather quickly, clinging to me

soon i felt a damp patch form where her head rested on my shoulder so i pulled away slightly to see that she was crying

"you don't hate me for messing-" bringing a finger to her lips i quietened her and shook my head signalling my answer a definite no

no ones pov

no more words where spoke that night. both women found comfort in each others arms. ultimately ending with the y/c/h girls' head buried into charltons neck, taking in her scent and drifting off to sleep for the second time that evening. the redhead soon following suit after a lingering peck to her partners forehead

again i'm sorry if this is bad :/
