warnings: quite british ig

and there you were, sitting next to your mum and her husband christian, closest person to a father figure you have, at the bafta tv awards, both of them had a hand of yours in theirs the whole time

your nerves were higher than through the roof, for you had been nominated for best supporting actress and at the age of eighteen, it was no small feat

you acted alongside the likes of jodie comer and stephen graham in the drama 'help'

when it got to your category you're hands began to shake so both parents instinctively held your hands tighter and your mum flashed you the brightest smile possible

"and the bafta goes to" suranne jones spoke into the microphone whilst opening the golden envelope

"y/n whittaker" she finished and the crowd cheered and applauded you

everything took a few seconds to actually to kick in, you stared at your mum in utter disbelief as the cameras focussed on your face

"honey, that's your name" she laughed bringing you into the tightest hug she could muster with the baby bump in the way

"i'm so bloody proud of you"

the journey down the stairs took much longer then anticipated. it turns out almost everyone you had ever worked with or met wanted to give you a hug, it was near impossible to walk pass someone without recieving one

half way down you spotted jodie comer standing up, clapping, and you couldn't resist practically throwing yourself into the hug

"you did it!!" the blonde whisper-cheered into your ear

once the trek to the stage was finally complete suranne handed you the award, to which you thank her, it was much heavier then you expected

"woah" you laughed breathless into the microphone

"this is so surreal, i don't know what to say... i certainly wasn't expecting this..." placing the golden faced statue onto the little stand you used one hand to cover your mouth and the other to hold your forehead

"y'know on the way up here i think i gave adele a high five, the adele. isn't that mad, i'm never washing this hand again by the way" you joked, holding up your right hand causing the crowd to laugh

"ok, ok serious..." a deep breath "thank you. thank you all" you looked out and scanned the audience of familiar faces, the faces you've grown up with

"i would like to thank the cast, the crew, the writers and all the amazing people who helped us in the making of this movie, the carers and charities that answered every question we sent their way, you were the people who really made it happen"

"jodie comer, i'm in love with you just incase i've never told you before" she shouted back 'i love you too' through a chuckle of her own

"i remember being around 7 or 8ish and going onto the set of broadchurch with my mum and just being absolutely in awe, especially when it came to olivia coleman" you pointed to her in the audience as she blew you a kiss "and david tennant... my mum was great too i guess" you quipped again causing laughter to erupt

"and i know i'm rambling but i just want to in all seriousness thank my mum. you've not only there for me, i'm going to hype her up now, but for the thousands of others. for she is the first female doctor, she owns that title. she has hopefully inspired people of all genders alike to just go for it because it really is possible. she's my role model, my rock, my everything. thank you mum, i love you" with one final blown kiss to the audience you went to walk away with your award but before you made it far you ran back and leaned into the mic

"thank you channel four, thank you bafta" everyone for the last time laughed and then set off in applause for you

backstage you were met with christian and his arms open so you ran and gave him a huge hug

"i'm sorry i didn't mention you in my speech"

"hey, no need to apologise for that" he reassured you, rubbing your back gently

"i really am though because i appreciate you so much... for everything you've not only done for me but for my mum too" you weren't lying, he does make your mum happy and that in turn makes you happy

"right, c'mon let's get back to your mum before she comes waddling backstage or you make me cry" christian, your dad, playfully nudged you to start your walk back to your seats
