Clara was tired of the covering act. She knew Freddie was hiding something. She didn't have the guts to ask him, though. Clara didn't want Freddie to grow angry with her and give her back. She didn't want him to lash out at her.

Freddie did find the guts to tell Clara. They were having dinner at home.

"Clara."

"Hmm."

"I need to tell you something." Freddie announced.

"Is it over why you've been acting weird lately?" Clara asked.

"I haven't been acting weird."

"Yes, you have," Clara argued quickly. She flinched when she saw Freddie move his hand. "I'm sorry for talking back."

"Clara," Freddie looked at her shockingly, "you know I would never hit you?"

"I'm sorry."

"You don't have to apologize, Clara," Freddie told her. "You did nothing wrong."

"I spoke back at you when I shouldn't have," Clara whispered.

"Clara, you're allowed to say what you're thinking. This isn't an autocracy or a monarchy. It's a democracy. I want to know what you're thinking."

Clara took a deep breath. "Yo-You've been acting strange lately. You've been pam-pampering me. It-t's not like I don't appreciate it and love it, but it's a little much. I feel li-like something is going on that I don't know about."

Freddie looked at Clara.

"You're right," Freddie told her. Clara's head shot up."I've been afraid to tell you something, but I think now's the time. Clara... you're not going to go to your high school for a while. You're coming to live with me to Vancouver."

"What?"

"You'll be doing online school on your computer."

"I-I won't be able to se-see my friends."

"Don't get me wrong. They'll be able to visit you and facetime you, but you won't see them in person for a while."

"Umm." Clara looked back at her feet. "Can I please be excused?"

"Of course, Clara."

Clara picked her plate up from the table and put it in the sink. She stalked to her room. She felt so numb, like she wants to cry but she can't.

Freddie didn't bother her until bedtime. He knew she needed space and time to deal with things. He only bothered her to say goodnight.

Clara asked the smallest thing.

"Will I finally meet Auntie Antonia?"

"Duh," Freddie said like it wasn't obvious. "She wants to meet you so badly."

Clara laughed. She hugged Freddie.

"I think I can try it, Dad."
