Remi

"Do you think your mom will be...hurt that your visiting your dad?"

I shook my head as I drove to the address he sent me. The only reason why I have his number is because I had to steal my mom's phone when I was a teenager. He was in the blocked section, so I wrote it down and I was able to contact him.

From there, I kept it secret that I still spoke to him. I always felt like I'd hurt his feelings if I said I was speaking to him.

Except now, I don't care.

I need to speak to my dad, my actual dad.

"I don't care if he is, or not. I'm an adult and I've been only thinking about how he'd feel. I intentionally avoided even seeing my dad for years, for his sake. I have no reason to do that anymore, so..." I clear my throat, pushing forward as I force a smile on my face. "At least you'll be with me, right?"

"Of course." Micah caressed my shoulder, and I lean into his hand a bit. Only to look back forward as I turn into a certain street.

I was immediately amazed by...the nice houses I was seeing. He never did bring up to me his predicament ever since back then.

Ezra was the one who told me my dad was a 'horrible person' and put his debt on my mom. That he punched him and for that, he cut his finger off. I really...have nothing to say on that.

When I was a child they were both perfect in my eyes, and some stuff you just don't tell a child. In my opinion, that should've just been kept to themselves.

I know he was just trying to ruin my image of my dad, but...Ezra bothers me more than him so.

"This is...it?" I question myself in confusion, parking before the biggest house in this neighborhood.

When I opened the car door I could hear some kids laughing in their yard. My heart dropping...for some odd reason.

"Hey..." I look in the car, seeing Micah begin to get ready to leave. "Can you stay in here for a bit? I'll text you when I want you to come in, okay?"

I see Micah frown, only to nod as he went on his phone. Now I close the door and head towards the backyard.

As I get there the laughing was getting greater. I even heard another man laugh now, and I stopped at the edge. Only to see...my dad playing with four other kids. All of them running around together and I saw another man, sitting in a chair as he had a baby in his arms.

Holding a camera, clearly recording this moment.

My lips tighten together because I could tell that I...would be impeding... This was his new family. This was his new life, he even had new kids. Kids younger than me and my other half siblings.

Like this was a family he just started a few years ago. Before I reached out even...or was it around that time?

I started talking to him again when I was thirteen. The oldest kid looked to be six.

"Oh!"

I flinch, looking as I saw a camera set on me. That man who was holding a baby smiling at me. I saw my dad look and he gasps, running over to the gate.

"Remi! I didn't know you were coming! Wait...yes I did, I'm sorry." He chuckles, and I watch as those four he was running around with started to surround his legs.

All of them looking up at me shyly or in confusion, one clinging to our dad like I was going to take him away.

"It's fine...I...think I'm impeding-."
