you didn't answer

as told by everest

My mom tried telling me that you were alright, but I wasn't convinced. She told me to get back in the car, and eventually I did. I texted you right away.

Hey, Charlotte Marie. Just checking in. Is everything alright? Call me ASAP, love. -Everest Logan.

You never replied.

So I called you. And you didn't answer.

I called you again. And you didn't answer.

I called you seventeen times, Charlotte. And you didn't answer.

I was crying. I wasn't okay. Not at all. I cared for you too much. I became fond of you too quickly.

So after my family was asleep, I quietly snuck into the kitchen and took the keys from the drawer that my mom kept all of her important things in, slipped on my shoes, and loaded myself and my trembling heart into the car. I drove away as fast as I could, and I could feel my pulse in my forehead.

I passed the speeding limit. I didn't have my licence. But I didn't care. All I wanted was to make sure that you were okay, Charlotte Marie.

When I got to your house, I banged on the door as loud as I could.

And you didn't answer. No one did.
