Different But Same (Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz)

LIX. Conversations & Unwanted Attention

It had been four days since Eli left Lainey's room to talk to his mom. When he arrived home, things hadn't ended well on their video call. There was a lot of shouting and Eli had cried for the majority of the call explaining he was trying to protect Lainey.

Mrs Moskowitz was unimpressed by the fact her son now held a criminal record and couldn't keep his hands to himself.

"Hands to myself? I'm not the one who took advantage of someone!" Eli had scoffed in response.

She was understanding he had tried to protect Lainey but not so happy by the fact that he landed himself in jail.

"What would your father say if he was still with us?" she had spoken.

That was the final straw. He hung up on his mother. And he cried. The tears fell. She'd never brought him into arguments and now she did.

It killed him that she would use that against him.

Eli had told everyone his dad moved away, but he died. He passed away when he was 11 and Demetri was the only one who knew the truth.

He hadn't even told Lainey.

But that didn't matter. She had gone away with her mom. Her, Sam and her brother had gone away to spend some time with their moms cousin, Jessica.

So they were in Ohio and Eli was alone in California.

That was until Demetri found out and was by his side every single day to keep him company. Lainey would be back at the end of the week and Eli couldn't wait to see her. She phoned him at the beginning of the week saying how she was going with her mom for her own good. Of course he understood why, especially after everything that had gone on. But he counted down the days until she would be in his arms once again.

But for now the boys were enjoying their downtime and were on their third rerun of Peter Capaldi's run as the twelfth Doctor.

"Lainey will kill us if she knows we're watching this without her," Demetri stated.

Eli nodded. "That's a chance I'm willing to take."

Demetri laughed. "You want her to kill you, right?"

Eli chuckled. "Mm, maybe."

Demetri grimaced. "Dude! Go and get me some more snacks from your kitchen."

"You know where everything is!"

Demetri placed a hand against his chest to mock offence. "Eli, you're supposed to be a good host! What would your girlfriend say?"

Eli rolled his eyes. "Technically, she's not my girlfriend anymore, remember? But you win..."

"Yeah, that's what I thought!" Demetri laughed as Eli paused the episode and got up from his place on the couch.

"What do you want?"

"Diet coke!"

"That's not a snack."

"Get me Diet Coke!"

"I don't have any."

"But you normally stock it for me." Demetri pouted.

"I'll go to the store and grab you some."

"You sure?"

"No, that's why I offered!"

Demetri rolled his eyes. "Well don't be long, I'll be here waiting!"

"Yeah whatever."

Demetri chuckled quietly as Eli exited the house. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and decided to dial Lainey.
