As Layla's delicate frame lay on her bed, enveloped by the soft glow of the room, I couldn't shake off the gnawing worry that gripped me. The memory of her recent allergic reaction, which had left her hospitalized for days, loomed large in my mind, casting a shadow over the present moment.

Beside me stood Iqra and Shifa, their expressions mirroring my own concern.

Layla's mother bustled around the room, her movements quick and purposeful as she prepared a cold compress for Layla's forehead. Her worry was palpable, etched across her features like a roadmap of concern.

"What happened, Zayn? Layla looks pale," Layla's mother exclaimed, her voice tinged with apprehension.

"She accidentally ate an avocado sandwich, Auntie," I explained hastily, urgency lacing my words. "We're just making sure she's okay."

Layla's mother nodded, her expression softening slightly as she turned her attention back to her daughter.
The air in the room crackled with tension, a silent reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.

As we waited for Layla to stir from her slumber, I couldn't help but replay the events of the day in my mind.

"Why the hell is your girlfriend so insecure about you guys? Doesn't she know you both are more like siblings?!" Shifa exclaimed, her frustration evident in her tone.

"I never knew she would do something like that. I've gotta talk to her."
Just as I finished my statement, my phone began to ring. With a reluctant sigh, I glanced at the caller ID, already anticipating the confrontation that awaited me on the other end of the line.

"Hey, Zayn! Where are you? How about we go out for dinner?" Hailey's voice rang through the phone, her tone oblivious to the gravity of the situation.

"Hailey, are you insane? Layla is in a slumber, all because of you, and you're acting as if nothing happened!" I retorted, my frustration boiling over.

"It wasn't my fault she didn't ask me about the avocados, Zayn," Hailey countered defensively, her tone tinged with irritation.

"Hailey, it's your last time hurting Layla. Next time you do anything, it's over. I can't see my best friend being poisoned by my girlfriend! You better stop being insecure about us!" I warned, my voice firm with resolve.

After delivering the ultimatum, I ended the call, feeling a mix of frustration and determination coursing through me. As I glanced up, I found Shifa and Iqra staring at me with wide eyes, their expressions mirroring a mix of shock and awe.

Did Zayn just shout at his girlfriend? Well, someone has gathered courage!" Shifa exclaimed in surprise, her voice carrying a mixture of shock and admiration.

"Yes, Shifa, I did shout at her," I replied firmly, my tone resolute. "If I let her go every time, it doesn't mean that she can do anything she wishes to. Especially not hurt my friends." My words hung heavy in the air, a reminder of the boundaries I refused to let her cross.

"Zayn?" Layla's voice trembled as she called out my name, her eyes brimming with tears. We gathered around her, offering comfort and reassurance as she poured out her fears and frustrations.

"Did Hailey do this just because we're close, Zayn?" Layla's voice wavered with emotion, her vulnerability shining through. "Zayn, I can't take it anymore. I can't handle her doing shitty things to me! But I also don't want to lose you again! The last time you went away, I faced things I never imagined I would. You couldn't help me, because of her. That thing still scares me, Zayn, it does!" Her words echoed in the stillness of the room, a poignant reminder of the pain she had endured.

"Layla, I promise," I whispered, holding her close, "I'll never leave you again, nor will I let her do anything to you ever again. I promise."

The weight of my vow hung heavy in the air, a solemn pledge to protect her at all costs. As Layla nestled into my embrace, Shifa and Iqra joined us, their presence a silent affirmation of our unbreakable bond.

In that moment, surrounded by the unwavering support of my friends, I vowed to shield Layla from the pain she had endured, no matter the obstacles that lay ahead.

I seriously can't see my best friend getting hurt again and again because of some shit-ass insecurity that my girlfriend possesses. I reflected inwardly, a surge of frustration coursing through me.

The thought lingered in the recesses of my mind, a stark reminder of the turmoil that had engulfed us all.

After some heartfelt conversation, we bid Layla goodnight and left her to rest. Before departing, we assured her that Iqra and Shifa would be there to pick her up for college the next day.

With a sense of relief knowing Layla was in good hands, we made our way home, the events of the day still weighing heavily on our minds.

As I settled into my room after a long day, I called out to my mom to let her know I was home. After freshening up, I lounged on my bed, my phone in hand, contemplating reaching out to Amaan.

Despite being aware of Layla's recent health scare, Amaan hadn't shown any concern, a fact that didn't sit well with me. I couldn't help but notice his increasingly distant behavior towards Layla lately, and it left me feeling uneasy.

I vividly recall the day Amaan first mustered the courage to propose to Layla in school. At that time, Layla and I were merely friends, unaware of the romantic entanglements that lay ahead.

Their reunion was serendipitous, as they rediscovered each other's presence in the classroom, their shared history weaving them together once more. While Layla sat in front of me in class, Iqra and Shifa were situated in the neighboring classroom, our paths intersecting in unexpected ways.

As time passed, the threads of fate continued to intertwine, weaving a tapestry of love and friendship that spanned the years. Despite the twists and turns that life threw our way, we remained steadfast in our bonds, navigating the complexities of relationships with resilience and determination.

And as we journeyed through the ups and downs of life, we learned that sometimes, the most precious connections are the ones that defy expectations and stand the test of time.
