That's not how it's suppose to be

"Hey Nevada?"

The two were laid down on their backs in an open field.

"Yeah?"

"I have a uhm— a question. It's a little personal though."

"Hey dude we've been friends for a while now, nothings too personal."

"So I guess I don't really understand."

"Understand what?"

"Why someone would choose to y'know."

"To..?"

"I mean, to be a man."

"Well I didn't really choose, I mean, I was just born in the body of a girl so I did what would help me feel more comfortable in my body."

"Yeah but being a dude sucks— why would you choose that—?"

Nevada looked at the other for a second.

"Texas do you not like being a guy?"

"I mean yeah. Isn't it like that for everyone though?"

"No-? I mean, Oregon and Washington like being guys, Utah likes being a guy, New York likes being a guy, I like being a guy!"

"Wait."

Texas pulled his legs closer.

"You don't see being a guy like something that's—"

Texas stopped for a second, thinking of how to say his thoughts.

"Sort of like a shit job you hate?"

"That's not how I see it. For me being a guy is fun, getting to wake up everyday and know I'm a guy is something that I like."

"It's supposed to be that way...?"

"Yeah...? I mean when I was a girl I felt that way but not now."

"Oh."

"Texas... do you... want to be a girl?"

Texas felt his (her?) chest get uneasy.

"I-"

Texas let out a grunt.

"I don't know! I mean, I can't be— I'm honestly one of the most masculine people I know."

"Yeah but do you like it? Like do you wake up and be who you want to be?"

"Not really— but that doesn't make me trans!"

"If you say so dude."

As Texas was getting ready for the night, and changing into comfier clothes, he couldn't help but feel weird.

Not weird.

Bad.

Like everything about his body was horrible and wrong and like he wasn't meant for it.

He thought for a second. Half of the time he had seen girls he thought were pretty he didn't actually like them, he just liked how they looked but in a different way.

"Fuck."

Maybe she had wanted to be those girls.

She finished getting ready and looked at the mirror.

Surely there's something she can do to try and feel better about her body right?

Everything felt off.

She looked down at her phone to try to find anything to fix her burning hatred of her body.
