Ducking into a dimly lit storage room, Mateo's heart pounded against his ribcage. The keycard he had acquired proved to be a lifeline, allowing him to slip unnoticed into spaces that were off-limits to others. Leaning against a stack of crates, he struggled to catch his breath, his mind a whirlwind of astonishment and fear.

In his arms, he held two creatures – one blue and one green – while a vivid red and yellow creature scuttled beside him. The surreal situation had evolved rapidly from comprehension to action, leaving Mateo grappling with the consequences of his impulsive decision.

Amidst the chaos, the yellow creature's 'voice' reached his mind. "Thanks for saving me and my friends!"

Mateo's expression hung in disbelief. The realization that he had intervened to liberate these creatures filled him with a sense of purpose he hadn't anticipated. "What are you guys, anyways? Where do you come from?" he uttered, his words a mixture of wonder and unease.

The yellow creature's response resonated, a testament to their shared enigma. "We don't know either. All we know is that we are unlike you humans," it confessed, its voice a blend of mystery and acceptance. As the blue creature floated from Mateo's arms, its form defying gravity, it added, "We've been here for as long as we can remember. We were probably born here."

From the floor, the red creature chimed in with a plaintive note. "We've never seen the outside world, just the confines of this facility. This is the only world that we know," it lamented, capturing the essence of their isolated existence.

The green creature, now shifting into a slimy state and climbing Mateo's shoulder, erupted into a frenzy of distress. "They torture us everyday! They carry out experiments on us! They chop me to pieces, and and and... awawawaw," it stammered, panic seeping through its words.

Mateo's heart swelled with compassion, and yet, he found himself grappling with the gravity of their situation. "I really wanna help you guys. But, if you yourselves don't know what you are or where you're from, how can I even help?" His words trailed off, a mixture of sympathy and uncertainty in his voice.

Escaping the facility, fraught with its dangers, seemed an almost insurmountable task, especially with these unique creatures as companions. The yellow creature's plea resounded with urgency and vulnerability. "We're not asking for much. Please, just let us go with you until we leave this place... We promise not to bother you afterward," it begged, its voice a plea laden with earnestness.

Mateo's gaze flitted upward briefly, assessing the hallway through a nearby glass panel to ensure their safety. Returning his attention to the creatures, he released a resigned breath. "Alright, alright... Let's focus on getting out of here first. We can talk about the rest later," he conceded, his words a bridge built between helplessness and a shared objective.

Although far from human, Mateo could have sworn he saw signs of contentment among the creatures. Their apparent happiness at his acceptance of their request touched him deeply. "Alright, Mateo. It's mission time. Objective: escape the enemy base," he whispered to himself, taking a steadying breath.

"By the way, you guys speak English. Is that like... part of your powers?" he inquired. The yellow creature shook its head, clarifying, "What do you mean? If you're asking about your language, then no," it replied. The red creature chimed in, "You're the first human we've encountered who can actually talk to us," it acknowledged. The green creature added, "Whenever we pleaded with the other humans to stop hurting us, they never listen!"

Mateo felt a newfound sense of connection with these beings, his ability to communicate bridging the gap between their worlds. "Mister, maybe you're different from other humans," the blue creature speculated. With a soft nod, Mateo acknowledged the possibility.
